YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Mr. Alfred J. Owens Jr., 83, departed this life Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
Mr. Owens, affectionately known as “Pudis,” was born Dec. 8, 1927, in Steubenville, Ohio (Jefferson County) a son of Alfred J. Sr. and Bessie Johnson Owens.
He was a graduate of Catholic Central High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He had been employed with LTV Youngstown Sheet and Tube, retiring in 1979.
After retiring from LTV, he worked with the State of Ohio as an inspector.
He was part owner of the Himrod Progressive Club and a member of the Donald Locket VFW Post 6488.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, the former Lola Longmire Harrison, whom he married Jan. 7, 1967; three children, Valerie Harvey, Shiryl (Thomas) Mason and Raymond G. (Tamara) Harrison, all of Youngstown; seven grandchildren, Alana, LaToya, Lamont, Jalen, Sherri, Tameika and Raymond; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Alice Keith of Cleveland, Ohio; and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, George and Georgia Pope.
Friends may call Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2011, at the Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Church
