Family-Placed Obituary

Florine A. McDougall, age 80, born June 18, 1924, in Mercedes, Texas, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004 in Houston. She was a former sixty- year resident of Austin and a Houston resident for the past two years. Florine, lovingly referred to as ``Nanny' by her grandchildren and family members, was raised in the Texas Rio Grande Valley, but also lived in the Philippines during the Great Depression. She attended The University of Texas at Austin and was retired from Texas Department of Public Safety. Mrs. McDougall was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church and the Miriam Women's Circle in Austin. She married Charles W. ``Mac' McDougall in 1947, and together they raised three children. They were married for 39 years until his death in 1986. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Simkins; father, Charles L.; and mother, Zaola Simkins. Mrs. McDougall is survived by daughter, Charlene McDougall; sons, Charles Rodney McDougall and wife, Dawne and Don Neal McDougall and wife, Joyce; grandchildren, Heather K. McDougall, Carrie C. McDougall, Charles R. McDougall Jr., Justin D. McDougall and Lindsey R. McDougall; sister, Elma Goodman; brothers, C.L. Simkins, Gene Simkins and Judson Simkins. She was a very warm and loving person who adored her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved flowers and plants and was a great storyteller. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Friends are invited to visitation with the family from two until four o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at ten o'clock in the morning on Monday, July 12, 2004, at Cook- Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery, 14501 N. IH-35 in Pflugerville, Texas. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be given to a charity of choice. Arrangements by Geo. H. Lewis & Sons Funeral Home, 713-789-3005.
