JAMES EDWARD HEFFERNAN Born Sept. 21, 1923. Died April 7, 2005.
Chemist, 39-year Colorado Springs resident. Survived by his wife, Janice M.; a son, Joseph; and a daughter, Margaret “Peggy” King. Visitation, 1 to 4 p.m. today, Nolan Funeral Home Chapel. Vigil, 5 p.m. today, Nolan Funeral Home Chapel. Services, 10 a.m. Wednesday, Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 1520 E. Yampa St.

James Edward Heffernan passed away April 7, 2005 at Memorial Hospital. He was born September 23, 1923, in Sioux City, Iowa to Mae (MacGuire) and Thomas Heffernan. He grew up in Hubbard, Nebraska, graduated from the University of Nebraska and attended both Iowa State University & the University of Indiana. James was an U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II.
James was a chemist, employed by Holly Sugar, Great Western Sugar, C & H Sugar and Italian Swiss Colony Wine. James was an avid reader, enjoyed classical and jazz music, watching sports, and loved being with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Dr. Chauncey Heffernan, John Thomas Heffernan, his sister, Vivian Moore, brothers-in-law Ralph Hipp Jr., Eugene Hipp and niece Carol Petsche.
James is survived by his wife Janice (Hipp) of 41 years, daughter, Peggy King (husband, Jay), son, Major Joseph Heffernan (wife, Lisa), three grandchildren, Nathaniel King, Brittany Heffernan & Kayla Heffernan. He is also survived by his sister, Connie Mandl, Omaha, Nebraska, sister-in-law, Frances Hipp, Fremont, Ohio, brother–in-law, Jim Hipp (wife, Terri), Yuma, Arizona, many nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews throughout the U.S.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m., at Nolan Funeral Home. A rosary will be said at 5:00 p.m., following the visitation at the funeral home. A funeral mass is scheduled for Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at 10:00 a.m., at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church with a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, Catholic Charities, or the organization of the giver’s choice.
