Richard Galen Fowler of Midland, Texas, entered into his eternal rest on Thursday, January 12, 2006, after a lengthy illness. Galen was born on April 16, 1932, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Richard Paul and Louise Harlan Fowler. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2006, at 2:00 pm at Nalley Pickle and Welch Funeral Home.


Galen had an outstanding winning record on the track team at Amarillo High School, Amarillo College and then at the University of Houston (U of H). He received his Bachelor of Business Administration in 1955 from U of H. For 30 years Galen worked as a Real Estate Broker at Murphy & Rochester in Odessa. In addition he did appraisal work and taught Real Estate classes at Odessa College for a number of years. Galen was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Odessa Rotary Club and served as their president in 1965.

Galen was known for his positive outlook on life, his passion for books and reading, and his love for telling jokes and making people smile. He never met a stranger, and made everyone feel welcome. He was a man of integrity, kindness, and extreme thoughtfulness.

Galen will be greatly missed by Billie Ruth Fowler, his loving and devoted wife of thirty-nine years; their son Galen Chris Fowler, daughter-in-law Beth, and granddaughter Brooke of Pearland, Texas; step-daughter Sabrina Leigh Kirby, son-in-law Glen, grandson Kurtis, and granddaughter Sarah of Odessa; son Tab Fowler, wife Julie, and granddaughter Megan Fowler of Austin; son Ty Fowler, granddaughter Emily, and great-granddaughter Bella of Dallas. Galen was also dearly loved by Billie's brothers, Grady and Garry Teague, and their families.

Donations in Galen's name may be made to Home Hospice, of which the family is extremely grateful for their care in Galen's final days.
