Ovella M. Kirkman, age 75 of Joplin,MO passed away at 1:05 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2004 at her home after a long illness.
Born Dec. 13, 1928 in Anadarko, Okla., she was the daughter of the late Ed Elice Cupp and Maude McCarty Cupp and had lived in Joplin since 1963. A homemaker, she also worked several years as a nurse’s aide, retiring from the former Oak Hill Hospital. She was a member of Southside Community Church of God and was a volunteer election poll worker for several years in Joplin,MO.
On Aug. 18, 1967 she married Bobby Lee Kirkman in Joplin,MO. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2000. Two sisters, Cherry Ann Cupp and Rosie A. Terry; as well as one brother, Charles Cupp, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Hancock, of Waco, Texas, Johnny Hancock, of Joplin, Danny Hancock, of Warner Robins, Ga.; a daughter, Allene Smith, of Joplin; seven sisters, Maybell Cook, of Springfield, Mo., Margaret Sturgis, of Joplin, Joyce Melton, of Scurry, Texas, Dorothy Reynolds, of Webb City, Opal Cupp, Mary Simonson and Patsy Edward, all of Joplin; one brother, Everett Cupp, of Dimmitt, Texas; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Southside Community Church of God at 11 a.m. Monday, March 29th with Rev. Dean Lewis and Rev. Robert Hendricks officiating. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Kenny Jarosz, Brian Jarosz, George Moore, Dalton Reynolds, Larry Reynolds, David Melton, Ricky Melton, Jackie Owens and Bobby Owens serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Parker Mortuary.
