Kenneth V. Johnson was born on September 29, 1913 in Madison County, Illinois and died Thursday, July 24, 2008 in San Antonio, Texas. He was one of six children born to Tressie Pearl and John Wesley Johnson.

Kenneth was a member of the Laurel Heights United Methodist Church and The Friendship Forum-Aldersgate Sunday School Class.

During World War II, he served as a Petty Officer 2/C in the Navy Air Corps. After the war, he was assigned to military government during the United States occupation of the Ryukus Islands located at the Southern tip of Japan.

Kenneth retired from Kelly AFB in 1973 after more than 30 years of combined military and civilian civil service. As a civilian, he worked with the Army Corps of Engineers and the Air Force.

He was an honorary member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1320. In February 1987, Governor Kay A. Orr of the State of Nebraska, appointed Kenneth to be an Honorary Admiral in that State's Navy.

In the summer of 1946, Kenneth met Katherine Dorothy Aiken, they married in December. This would be a union of 55 years, until Katherine's death on July 25, 2002. In addition to his parents and first wife, Kenneth was preceded in death by his brothers, Olin W. Johnson, Col. Wm. G. Johnson, Gorden R. Johnson; sister, Eva Gillam and step-daughter, Vivian R. Murdock.

He is survived by his wife, Celma; daughter, Judith B. Rhoden and husband, Richard of Branson, MO; step-daughter; Elisa Bifulco and husband, Artie of New Jersey; granddaughter, Jill Vangelista and husband, Kenneth of Waconda, IL and children, Anthony, Joseph, Vincent and Nicole; granddaughter, Jeanne Reeves and daughter, Jennifer of Granite City, IL; granddaughter, Julie Bumbery of Granite City, IL; grandson, Robert Kenneth Bumbery of Branson, MO; Richard Bumbery and children, Angel and Mitchell of Branson, MO; sister, Edna Woods and husband George of Cahokia, IL and children, Marilyn, Eugene and Janice; sister-in-law, Doris Johnson of Rockledge, FL and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will visit with friends on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Porter Loring on McCullough.

In lieu of flowers, the family request gifts be made to the Evangelistic Program at Laurel Heights Methodist Church, 227 W. Woodlawn, San Antonio, TX 78212 or to a charity of one's choice.

Interment in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
