John's Regiment was formed in March, 1865. Most of the 101st were held prisoner after the Siege of Plymouth April 17-20, 1864. His regiment served as garrison at Roanoke Island till June, 1865. He was mustered out at New Berne June 25, 1865. In late 1865, the Army dismantled the forts on Roanoke.
