GLOUCESTER, MA — Everett Tyne of Gloucester, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009. He was 89.

Born in Gloucester, on Jan. 25, 1920. He was the son of the late Mary (Ambrose) and Everett Tyne Sr.

A life-long resident of Gloucester, Mr. Tyne attended Gloucester High School and was a graduate of Wentworth Institute in Boston. He served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged attaining the rank of machinist mate, first-class. He was a member of the Gloucester American Veteran's Post 32 and Elk's Club. He worked as a type setter for The Gloucester Daily Times for over 40 years. He was a member of Riverdale Methodist Church.

A devoted father, husband and grandfather, he enjoyed raising his three daughters at their Wheeler's Point home with his dear wife, Janet (Tobey) Tyne who died in 1978. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Mr. Tyne's favorite past-times were golfing, gardening, boating and watching the Boston Red Sox.

Mr. Tyne is survived by his daughters, Linda Miller and her husband Dennis of Epping, N.H., Deborah Ketchopulos and her husband James of Rockport, Janet Scott and her husband Derek of Palm Dessert, Calif.; His special friend and dear companion, Arlene Day of Gloucester; his sisters-in-law: Barbara Pickard of Ipswich, Norma Spittle and Lillian Tobey both of Gloucester; his grandchildren: George Ketchopulos and his wife Catherine, Michael Ketchopulos and his wife Samantha all of Rockport, Michael Elliot and wife Pamela of Florida, Mary Grover and her husband Kevin, Dawn Drew and her husband Ron, John Elliott and his wife Michelle all of New Hampshire; great-grandchildren Aiden, Logan and Rachel Ketchopulos all of Rockport, Jonathan, Christopher and Tam Martell, Jason, Justin and Joshua Cook, Allison, Brendon and Samantha Grover all of New Hampshire. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Janet (Tobey) Tyne, Mr. Tyne was predeceased by his brother Gordon Tyne who was killed in World War II and his granddaughter, Demetria Ketchopulos.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held in the Burgess & Mackey Funeral Home, 201 Main St., Rockport on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. The burial will be held privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a contribution are asked to consider the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 260 Main St., Gloucester, MA 01930.
