YOUNGSTOWN, OH – Stephan “Steve” Potkonicky Sr., 90, of the city’s west side, passed away Sunday morning at Hospice House following an extended illness.
Steve, who was also known affectionately as “Pat,” was born June 15, 1922 in Youngstown, Ohio a son of the late Andrew and Justina Sedilak Potkonicky, and was a lifelong area resident of the Mahoning Valley.
He was a welder for 41 years at Youngstown Steel Door, retiring in December of 1983.
Steve was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Church in Youngstown, and was a social member of the CWV John J. Buckley Post No. 1292.
He enjoyed gardening, walking, and collecting his “antiques.”
His wife of 63 years, Margaret E. Tusin Potkonicky, whom he married June 22, 1946, passed away Feb. 28, 2010
Steve leaves his son, Steve Potkonicky Jr. of Youngstown, Ohio; a daughter, Beth (Donald) Kredel of Youngstown; seven grandchildren, Joseph Jr. (Janet) Potkonicky, David Kredel, James Potkonicky, Steve Potkonicky III, David (Amanda) Potkonicky, Christina (John) McGarry, and Amy Lynn (Rob) Stronjy; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and a daughter-in-law, Paula Potkonicky of Austintown.
Pat will be missed by all who loved him.
Besides his wife, two sons, Joseph Potkonicky and infant David Potkonicky; three sisters, Mary Ragan, Ann Zapka, and Rose Polojak; and two brothers, Andrew and Paul Potkonicky, are deceased.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home and continue at 11 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church.
