James W. Toms, Sr.

Graveside service for MSG (Retired) James W. Toms, Sr., 89, Lawton will be at 11:00 am Friday at the Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin with Dr. William F. Watkins, Retired Baptist Minister, Lawton officiating.
Sergeant Toms died Tuesday in Lawton.
Burial with Full Military Honors will be in the Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, under the direction of Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service.

James was born June 14, 1922 in Blytheville, Arkansas to John W. and Dora F. (Burnette) Toms. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1942, and served during World War II, Korea and Vietnam before retiring at Fort Sill in 1972 after thirty years of service. After his retirement he worked for Montgomery Wards for several years, and worked maintenance at several apartment complexes in Lawton. James was an avid Square Dancer, and spent a lot of his free time at The Center for Creative Living in Lawton.
Survivors include his four children, Jim Toms, Jr., of Portland, OR, Timothy J. Toms of Bisbee, AZ, Toma J. Fisher of Disney, OK and Tere Sue Krueger of Sturgeon Bay, WI. He is also survived by his brother, Pete Toms of Saulsbury, TN, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
