Biography

Funeral for Doris June Blalock McNeil, 77, Lawton, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Cameron Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Jones, pastor officiating.

On January 9, 2012, Doris McNeil died peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones.

Burial will be at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service.

She was born on June 3, 1934, in Purcell, Oklahoma, to David William and Ola Belle Blalock. She grew up in Purcell, Lindsay, and Maysville, Oklahoma. She graduated from Maysville High School in 1952. Two months after graduation she accepted a job at Crippled Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City. She married Kieth Wayne McNeil on December 26, 1953, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He died in March 1988. Together they raised 6 wonderful children, 5 sons and 1 daughter. They spent 2 military tours overseas: Philippine Islands for two years and Oberammergau, Germany, for three years. She was privileged to visit Hong Kong; Tokyo, Japan; Austria, and Italy. In later years she visited Mexico and Canada. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren.

During her civil service career she worked at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge Headquarters; Director of Logistics, and Army Community Services. She retired May 31, 1998. She was the first civilian hired for the Army Emergency Relief Program and she managed the highly visible Christmas Food Basket program for eight years allowing more military families to enjoy the holidays due to her diligence and concern for others.

In March, 1975, at the age of 40, she enrolled at Cameron University while employed full-time. She was very proud of the 48 hours she completed. She was a member of Cameron Baptist Church, Salvation Army, Mount Scott Area Kiwanis Club, and Beta Sigma Phi Oklahoma Xi Epsilon Zeta.

Survivors include her children Wayne and his wife Vicki McNeil, Savannah Georgia; Ron McNeil, Green, Ohio; David and his wife Gail McNeil, Fort Worth, Texas; Steve and his wife Mary McNeil, Elgin; Greg and his wife Cindy McNeil, Moore; and Cindy Jones, Elgin. She is survived by nine grandchildren Ryan McNeil, Ohio; Christine Jones, Elgin: Brendan and his wife Shelby Jones, Clinton; Heather and her husband Michael Mitchell, France; Jared McNeil, Fort Worth, Texas; Justin and his wife Amber McNeil, Elgin; Ashley and her husband Jacob Robertson, Lawton; Amanda McNeil, Elgin; and Josh McNeil, Elgin; and two great grandsons: Gunner and Gage McNeil, Elgin. She is survived by her sister Sharon Westmoreland and her husband Charlie, Lake Charles, Louisiana; two brothers James and Anna Lee Blalock, Pilot Point, Texas; and Larry Blalock, Riverside, California. Her sister-in-law Anne Blalock, Yakima Washington; Gaye and her husband Dean Wilson, Shields, Kansas; and brother-in-law Gary Towner, Hooker. Five nieces Vicki Saxby and her husband Gordon, Patti Von Tour, LeeAnn Watson, Beverly Roermer, and Mary Ming; five nephews Mike and his wife Katie Wing, John and his wife Louisette Wing, Carl Wilson, Brian Blalock and Scott Towner.

She was preceded in death by her husband Keith; her parents; two brothers: Delbert Eugene Blalock and David W. Blalock Jr. and two sisters Gearleen LaVerne Blalock and Ola Lavonne Blalock Towner; and a nephew Earl Wilson.

The family will greet friends from 6-8 pm Friday at the funeral home.
