HERMITAGE, PA. – Shirley Cummerick Dzuricsko, 77, of 4730 Pinecone Drive, passed away at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Sharon Regional Health System in Sharon, Pa.
Mrs. Dzuricsko was born March 29, 1935, a daughter of Anna Andrasko Cummerick in Sharon, Pennsylvania.
She was baptized in St. Elizabeth’s Roman Catholic Church in Farrell, Pa.
She was a member of St. Michaels Byzantine Catholic Church in Hermitage.
She attended Prospect Heights Elementary School, where she had many fond memories. She went to Sharon Junior High School to grade 7, which is now Penn State University, Shenango Valley Campus.
She was a graduate of Farrell High School, Class of 1953, as a Commercial Student.
She was a graduate of Youngstown State University, graduating in 1957.
She received the Sharon Steel Scholarship and was a member of Phi Lambda Delta Sorority. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education for English, Bookkeeping, Office Practice, Shorthand, Typewriting, and Business English.
She retired on 1997 from City of Hermitage, where she was a Zoning Clerk for 20 plus years.
Prior, she was employed at the Records Office at Youngstown State University.
Shirley was a member of “Club 53” and enjoyed meetings with her friends. She loved to watch Jeopardy and Turner Classic Movies, and particularly enjoyed “Gone With The Wind,” Shirley Temple, and Broadway Musicals.
She was very proud of her college education, which served as a positive example for her children and grandchildren.
Her husband, George Joseph Dzuricsko Jr., whom she married Aug. 17, 1957, passed away Feb. 26, 1981.
Shirley is survived by two sons, George J. Duricsko III and his wife, Lisa (Barrett) Lisle of Illinois and their children, Rebecca, sons Caleb, George IV and Gregory; and son William D. Dzuricsko and his wife, Barbara (Hartsky) of Hermitage, Pa. and their children, William T. and Brianna.
Also surviving is daughter, Janet Dykstra of Bethel Park, Pa. and her children, Jimmy and Marie; and sister Betty Anne Matuscak of Youngstown.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, George Joseph Dzuricsko Jr.; and mother Anna Andrasko Cummerick.
Friends may call today, Jan. 8, 2013, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Stephen J. Sherman Funeral Home, 2201 Highland Road in Hermitage, with Parastas service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of Panachita service at 9:30 a.m. at the Stephen J. Sherman Funeral Home.
A Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at St. Michaels Byzantine Catholic Church in Hermitage.
