Edwin Segrave was born in 1818 in Wycombe, Bucks, the son of John Segrave, an Excise Officer and my great great great grandfather, who had lived in 93? West Street, Great Marlow, or possibly Wycombe and Sarah Ann Segrave, (nee Sarah Ann Berkin,1789 – 25th June 1872, died age 83). Edwin certainly had at least one brother, Samuel who emigrated to Australia who possibly had an older brother Charles.

Initially Edwin was a clerk (and an enumerator for the 1841 Census), then living in the High Street, Great Marlow with his future mother-in-Law, Elizabeth Wade. He went on to become a schoolmaster of the Wycombe Borlase Free School (still exists).

He married Catherine Wade on 1st August 1844 at St Mary’s, Marylebone. They had nine children: Edwin died on the 4th April 1906, whilst living at 4 High Street, Gt. Marlow, leaving an estate of £134.5s.6d),
