Walker Co. Mining Accident

My gr grandfather, William Thomas (Tom) POTTER was killed in a mining accident in a mine near Dora, Walker Co., on 23 Mar 1908. I finally found what I am positive is his death certificate verifying the family stories (the initials on the certificate are incorrect--I believe it says J.F. or J.T. instead of W.T. (one of his sons is John Franklin so I suspect the mistake was made). He was visiting a son, Chester, and Chester's family when the accident occured. He was not working the mine--Chester was. I keep hoping someone might find a newspaper article or obit about the accident. Any help appreciated. His descendants have a yearly Reunion in July. Always try to bring new info. We think he is buried in the "White Cemetery" near Dora where a lot of miners were buried. He has two grandsons buried next to him, but none of the graves were ever marked.

Tom and Patti

The Alabama Archives has Walker Co. newspaper microfilm available on interlibrary loan (I believe there is a fee). See the newspaper microfilm database:

http://archives.state.al.us/newsmicro/search.cfm

Good luck!

Melissa
