First, I would like to say how thrilled I am that a list regarding New England Seafarers has been created. The information being shared by everyone is interesting, informative and so much fun to read!
My seafaring ancestor was Captain John Nash Pritchard of Newburyport, MA. Born in 1833, and starting at about the age of 12, he worked his way up through the ranks from cabin boy to master and owner of merchant ships. I consider myself very fortunate to have a quite detailed chronicle that he wrote about his seafaring days, and from that I have taken the names of these ships:
Cabin boy: Brig Massachusetts
Ship Versailles
Ship Scotland
Ship Emerald
Seaman: Ship Celestial
Ship Contest
Ship Carrington
Chief Officer: Ship Volent (Stephen Bray, Master)
Ship Josiah L. Hale
Ship Keystone
Ship Elizabeth Cushing
Master: Brig Trenton
Ship Gem of the Ocean
Ship Montana
Ship Lucy S. Wills
Bark Benjamin F. Hunt, jr.
I would be very interested to know if anyone else has come across these ships in their research and am more than happy to share what information I have. Best Regards, Susan
