After doing much more research and with help from a man who is an expert on Scottish searches I MAY have found Alexander. If correct he was born April 18th 1754 in Edinburgh Midlothian Scotland to William Bain and Hannah Soulsby. Spelling was not standardized and I was told that different records could have different spelling but as long as the names sounded similiar then they probably were the same people. I knew that Alexander had a younger sister from the story told to me so I looked for a younger sister from the same parents and i found Sophia born Oct 3rd 1755 to the same William (spelled Bane in this record) and Ann Solesbay. She was also born in the same "parish" Edinburgh Midlothian. What leads me to believe he is "our" Alexander is that there are no further records of the family which leaves me to believe they did emigrate. Just a curious note too Alexander named one of his sons William and one of his daughters Hannah. I am on the search for ships that may have left Edinburgh or ports near there in 1761 or '62 for Canada but there are very few records kept back that far. If you Google vital records index Bristish Isles you can find the info and the site Scotlands People have the records too but you do have to pay a small fee to get their records. I actually have the original hand written record of Alexanders birth. Says his father Willaim was a "wright" which was a cabinet maker or carpenter. If I find any more info I'll post it. I tried every place I could think of and could find no records that Alexander or any of his family ever lived in Sandwich Ma or anywhere else in the New England States. I did find the original hand written record of his marriage to Sarah Perry by Rev Jonathan Scott in Yarmouth Nova Scotia on Dec 12th 1774. Hope some of you are still around. I know Valerie is but I'm having trouble getting ahold of nancy Hunt...
