London Cordwainers - Quarman

Surnames: Quarman
Peter Quarman was born c1788 in the City of London in the Newgate/Cripplegate area and his occupation, and that of his brother, was Cordwainer. Were all cordwainers apprenticed, or did they learn their trade from their father? My Quarman family were extremely poor and moved from the City to east London.
