Railway ancestor - Charles Thomas BURLING station master at Spon Lane in Smethwick

I am looking for information on Charles Thomas BURLING 1855-1907, who was station master at Spon Lane in Smethwick in the early 1900's.
I have census records from 1881 (Aberystyth), 1891 (Walsall) and 1901 (Smethwick), and IGI listings of his marriage and the birth and death of his first child between 1873-77. His birthplace is given as Upminster, Essex, but I can't find him in 1861 or 1871.
As he was a station master in 1881,at the age of 28, I am assuming that in 1871 he would have been somewhere along the LMS? line as a porter or ticketing clerk, working his way up the ladder so to speak.
Is there any way to find out more about him?
Regards
Jenni
Could someone please lookup with the British railways Board to find an accident which would have taken place around 1894, causing a fatality to the switchman and (so the story goes) his wife. Any details would be appreciated. Possible surname Gabriel. thank you.

George FRENCH, Railway Signalman

G'day,

I have just started on the Family Tree and have discovered that one of my male ancestors was a Railway Signalman.

His name was George French and his occupation was so listed in the 1881 Census.

He and his family were listed as being in the Southampton, Hampshire area at that time.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find out further information?

I'd like to find out more about him and his family, but also, which railway he worked for and in particular, the signal box or boxes he worked.

Regards,

ChrisF - Western Australia.
