Iam needing confirmation that Stephen D. Douglas was a US Marshall in the late 1800's after 1860.He was from South Carolina and later settled in craig co va where he raised a family.Family tale is that he may of went by the name Stephen Norman(original name) before setteling in Va,and that he was once a US marshall.
