I Find that the lists are to long and that I couldn't put up all the the letters of the alphabet on the post. So this is my last one. However I will be happy to do any and all lookups in any year of 1790-1873. I'm sorry to say I'm in error on the date of me first two posts in should have 1873 not 74. If you would like a lookup on my A or B list let me know be happy to help.

Dennis Segelquist.

I am trying to find out when my great grandfather was postmaster of a small town in Iowa. The town was in Davis Co., Bloomfield, Ia. This had to before June of 1913 as he died in June of that year. His name was Jasper Newton Milliken. He had a son named Harry A. Milliken, who I thought maybe was a letter carrier. His other son was James Curtis Milliken, who was my grandfather.

If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it.

Thank you,
Betty Jo

Postmaster, Springfield, Illinois

My ggggrandfather is reported to have been the postmaster in Springfield in the 1800s. His daughter, Harriett A. Cooper, was my great-great grandmother, and married Frances Samuel Blodget (or Blodgett). The marriage was in the late 1830's.

At least one version of the family history indicated that he was the first postmaster of Springfield.

Does anyone have any information on this family, or resources to find info on the early Springfield post office?

Mason WV Postmaster

My GGG Grandfather was Postmaster in Mason West Virginia, appointed in 1866. Got this information from a book called Hardesty's WV Heritage. I do not own the book, someone in West Virginia looked it up for me. Happened to be in article written about him and his settlement in Mason, ect. My question is- could NARA be any more difficult to deal with ? Getting any records from them, even in the interest of Genealogy, is almost impossible. I am waiting for them to add the question, What did your ancestor have for his last breakfast !?!?!?
Anyone have any secrets on how to deal with them?

Thanks,

Becky

Postal employee named Louise; worked in Fla; possibly retired

I am looking for a woman named Louise who was born March 22, 1951. I do not know her last name. She was allegedly a postal worker in Fla, and would have retired in the last 5 years or so. Louise was born Louise Ann Whitney, and she was born in Rumford, Maine. She was given up for adoption when she was very young. Her mother married my uncle several years later and gave birth to my cousin. My cousin is trying to locate her sister. We do not know who adopted her or where she grew up for sure, although Wisconsin was mentioned at one time. If anyone can shed any light on this (I know there's not much to go on here), I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Thank you, Jolynn Winland

Postmasters List

'This may have been posted to this site previously, but I don't see it anywhere. Go to: http://www.usps.com/postmasterfinder/ Even though it says it contains mostly postmasters from 1986 when I went to the Fargo ND site it listed each one from the time it was a territory. I found the person I was looking for - Winfield Hooper - but added a new mystery = who was Walter D. Maddocks in 1871 - hmmmmm.

Several years ago I saw a brochure from the USPS regarding this site and mentioning that they would be addied to it all the time. So put in your favorites and check back every now and then. Miracles do happen.

Leslie

I have another postmaster ancestor, Samuel Benton Cox, who c 1880 was the postmaster for Glen Cove, Coleman Co, Texas. I don't have the deed for the property, but he owned the store there in town also. Glen Cove was located about 15 miles west of Coleman City. Anyone related?

Also listed Percival Wragg, John B Cowan, Gerard Hahrenholz, Nat Samler, Mary Danielson, John Phillips, Robt MacLeese, John Janssen, Patrick Marino, Joseph Caccio, Dante Caporale, Patrick Marino, Wm C Jordan.

Hadn't thought of this before, but a representative from the postal workers union told me contact Human Resources for the USPS.

Presumably that is for relatives who are not too distant in the past. If I find out more I will let you all know. Happy researching!

More info on postmasters...

Well the plot thickens. This is reply I got from NARA.
-----------------------------------

The postal records in the National Archives do not include a
comprehensive index to mail carriers or their personnel records. Microfilm
Publication M841, Records of Appointment of Postmasters, 1832-September 30,
1971 reproduces records that show the names of the post offices, dates
of their establishment, discontinuance, and changes of name. They show
the names and dates of appointment of postmasters but not their length
of service. These records are arranged alphabetically by State or
Territory, thereunder alphabetically by county, and thereunder by post
office. You may wish to visit our Archives Library Information Center at
http://www.archives.gov/research_room/alic/research_tools/se...
to find a regional archives near you which has this microfilm
publication. You may wish to consult our microfilm Genealogical and
Biographical Microfilm Catalog which are available online at
http://www.archives.gov/publications/microfilm_catalogs.html to see a
roll by roll description of the publication. National Archives
microfilm publications are available for $34 per roll from our Product Sales
Section. Make checks payable to the National Archives Trust Fund
(NATF-NWCP) and send to the National Archives Trust Fund Board, P.O. Box
100793, Atlanta, GA 30384. Please complete and return the attached NATF
Form 36 (pdf) with your payment.
---
Sorry I can't attach the PDF! It disappeared into the black hole of my computer.
