John Ericson was my grandfather's uncle who moved to USA from Sweden in 1911. He was born in 1893 in a small swedish town called Tibro. When he first came to America he worked as an apprentice of Walter Goss in Boston. In 1918 he moved to Chicago and a year later to Brunswick, Hanover. He opened a shop in Hammond in 1926. My greatgrandfather and John's brother Edvin was meant to have moved with him but, so my grandfather claims, missed the boat from Gothenburg and remained in Sweden. I do not know all that much about his background other than that his father's name was August and that he was a carpenter. My grandfather's sister also has a violin made by John. I hope that, eventhough it is not much, this information might be of interest to you.
