Sorry to hear about your loss. I was born in Hammond, In and my father had a violin made by John Ericson in 1939 and his number is 556. I would go and make payments for him. His shop was downtown on Hohman and State St. in Hammond.
He worked in Chicago for several years with another violin maker and can't remember his name but I can get it if you are interested. He left Chicago and came to Hammond and when he retired he lived in Cedar Lake with his daughter I understand if he would have stayed in Chicago he would have been just as famous as the other man, but he choose to come to Indiana.
I know a man who repairs violins and every so often he sees a John Ericson violin. I will mention to him about yours and hopefully one day it will be found. Lorraine Verrill Homner
