Can anyone tell me anything about an inscription on a clock face - C.W. Miller -1742 - Germantown . I am assuming they mean Germantown, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania .

Another source if it was made in Pennsylvania: The Library Company of Philadelphia.

A search of an historical directory of that time will confirm whether or not your C.W. MILLER lived in Pennsylvania or elsewhere.

There's also a Germantown, New York and a Germantown, Maryland.

You would probably need to research clockmakers for that time period. Try www.worldcat.org for relevant books...

Hi all

I am at a dead end regarding my research on one line of my tree and thought I may try to find a work around.

I am unable to find my great grandmother prior to her marriage. On the marriage certificate her father is listed as

Charles Williams - Watch Maker

This was in 1908.

I have been looking online, through trade directories but have been unable to find him. Does anyone have any tips or advice as to where I might look? I am hoping to find an address or spouse name so I can locate the family on census records and thus move further back on the line.

Thank you in advance for any help you might be able to give.

TYTE watch/clock makers Apprenticeship Records

Does anyone have the book by Moore which contains Watchmakers Apprenticeship Records and would be able to do a look up for me, or any other book which may have similar info.

I am interested in several watch/clock makers with the surname of Tyte, Samuel working c1830 Warminster, Cornelius working c1844 Swansea, Cornelius working c1861 Wells, and George Williams Tyte working c1880 Wells. I have quite a bit of info on them already but trying to find their early apprenticeship years.
