I am searching for a good contact number of the AOH in Cleveland, Ohio. I have tried to contact the person listed on the website, but I think it is outdated. My GF was a member of this group in the early to mid 1900's.

Thanks so much,

Robin C.
Anchorage, AK

A.O.H. membership requirements

We have a great uncle who was a member of the AOH Division 1 in Detroit, Michigan in 1889. We are trying to find out where his father came from in Ireland and were wondering if any records may still exist from that time in history? The uncle's name was Nicholas Hennessey and he died in August 1889. Were members required to document their Irish heritage back then? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

John Mc Evoy, AOH in Decatur, Macon County, Illinois

How do I find out about a Division, which might not be around anymore (Decatur, Macon County, Illinois).

Would also like to know about the infrastructure of the AOH. I have heard of Divisions, but is there a larger County, State, National Office and what are they called.

Also... Are there positions or titles held within the organization and what is the heirarchy.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
Jeff

Funeral of John McEvoy AOH, Decatur, Macon County, Illinois 1890

Decatur Daily Dispatch; September 04, 1890

"Funeral of John McEvoy
The funeral services over the remains of the late John McEvoy, held in St. Patrick's church Sunday afternoon, were largely attended, the church not being large enough to accommodate the vast crowd which desired to attend. The Ancient Order of Hibernians, to which order the deceased belonged, attended in full regalia. The occasion was a peculiarly sad one for this fraternity, as Mr. McEvoy was its local treasurer, and his death was the first to occur among the Decatur members. The services were inpressively conducted by the Rev. Father McGuire and the funeral train which followed the remains to the Catholic cemetery was the most imposing that has been seen in this city for many days, there being more than eighty carriages in the line. The pall bearers were Michael Walsh, John Dunn, Michael Holland, Marcus Walsh, John Giblin and John Holland. Among the friends and relatives from abroad who attended the funeral were Mrs. Pat Grady, of Maron, sister of the deceased, Mr. and Mrs. B. Burns, of Kenney, Mr. and Mrs. James Little, of Wapella, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson and family, of Peoria, Mr. and Mrs. Scanlon, of Ivesdale. The family received letters of condolence and regret from friends in Vicksburg, Miss, Pittsfield, Mass, and Fall River, Mass."

An obituary for my grand aunt, Margaret Grady, of Bordentown, New Jersey states that she was a member of the Ladies Auxillary of the AOH. She died in 1935. I am wondering if anyone knows if a group like this would have records of membership and what information might be contained in them? Thanks!
