MYFAMILY.com still sending painful Birthday reminders years after person is dead

Be very careful about your decision to open a MYFAMILY.com website.
I had a website for several years and then closed it back around 2004. MYFAMILY.com is STILL using all the e-mail address for the member I had to send them Birthday and Anniversary Reminders.
This has caused me and my family great pain as some of the members are now deceased. It looks like I am insensitive (because I already know of their passing) and it’s a very hurtful reminder to the other family members.
I have contacted MYFAMILY.com several times and after MUCH transferring and calling, they assured me it would not happen again as they “fixed the problem”.
Well, it was okay for a year or so and now it is happening again.
I am getting very angry letters from my family and worst of all…..I don’t know it’s happening since I don’t receive ANYTHING!!!
How long has it been happening and how many family members haven’t let me know about their pain.
I don’t recommend using the site.
John HAWKINS and Mary COLLINS

My Great grandparents John HAWKINS (1807 England) and Mary COLLINS (b around 1818 Ireland) were married in the Church of England, Houghton Parish 25/3/1845.
All their children were born at Camyr Allyn near East Gresford over the next ten years. I haven't been able to find a death for either John or Mary.
I'm assuming that one or both were convicts.
Does anyone know of a list of assignments to Charles BOYDELL (who owned Camyr Allyn)?

Cheers
Robyn

Patrick Carmody

I am researching my great great grand parents Patrick & Bridget Carmody. Both were born in Ireland in County Clare and came to Australia in 1838. They first went to Boree in the district of Molong NSW to work for the Suttor family and then moved to East Maitland about 1843 where my great grandfather Patrick was born then Margaret was born 1845 now they moved to the Pages River and leased land from the Haydon family who owned the property called "Bloomfield"They had more children Mary and John 1848 and then in 1850 twin boys James & Joseph but the story is that Bridget died in child birth. Are there any decendants of Patrick's brothers or sisters still living in the Maitland area or Murrurundi. Patrick Carmody's brother John Carmody also came to Australia 1841 and settled at Boxtree,Blandford and married Mary Carey 1857 in Murrurundi. I would love to hear from any decendants of either Patrick or John Carmody.

RUTTER

----- Original Message -----
From: Jim and Glenda
To: mfhc@kooee.com.au
Sent: Friday, October 24, 2008 2:28 PM
Subject: RUTTER Isabella

Good afternoon,
I am hoping that you can help me with some family research.

I am researching a part of my Family who have convict connections in the Newcastle/Maitland/Morpeth areas. About 4years ago I sent a couple of email inquiries to you and received a reply from Ann Campbell.and another researcher whose name escapes me. These replies were stored in my computer but unfortunately all information was destroyed when the hard drive recently decided it was TIME TO EXPIRE. My query concerned the birth details of children born to an Isabella RUTTER who was herself born in Morpeth about 1841 the daughter of Convicts. .NSW BDM have 3 children born to her as follows...
1859 9731 ...RUTTER (female) Isabella Morpeth
1861 9594 RUTTER Lidguana Isabella Morpeth
1863 9731 RUTTER William Isabella Moulamein (?????)
Isabella was, at the time of birth of these tree children unmarried however I believe one of the emails I received from your Society stated that the father to these children was recorded on at least one CHURCH REGISTER as Richard STEWART , MARINER, and his residence is shown as ON BOARD SHIP. Isabella later married my Grandfather Richard SATTERLY a Mariner who plied the East Coast of Australia from about 1858. I have also heard this from other sources who are unable to confirm their source and further Lidguana used the name SATTERLY at the time of her marriage.
I do not know the name of the church where these children were baptised nor where the original records are stored but I feel that I need to inspect the the original records or a photocopy of them to ascertain if the fathers name might in fact be SATTERLY and not STEWART as previously advised. Can you help please. The spelling of the SATTERLY surname was, like a lot of others in the early days one which suffered a lot in spelling and transcriptions.
I do not think it was Ann CAMPBELL who did the initial research

Thank you in anticipation

James SATTERLY
Scarborough Qld.
I have just bought a marriage certificate through BDM in NSW and alas it has only same information as index. Then I found somewhere that mentioned bdm didn't get all the information to put into the certificate so I may have to check local records.
I would truly appreciate if anyone is able to do this.
Henry John Burt married Margaret Moore in 1849 at Black Creek East Maitland. Marriage by banns. minister Robt Chapman. No religious denomination noted.

Thanks very much
If I can return the favour for names in Mackay Qld I will do so happily.

I am trying to find the impossible. My grandmother was born to Olga Grace SULLIVAN, youngest daughter of John Albert SULLIVAN and Louisa GAGGIN, in Aug 1928. Her father has never been known and is not listed on her birth certificate. My grandmother was raised by her grandparents believing them to be her parents and her real mum as her sister. Olga later went on to have more children in her marriage to William A. MADDALENA.
Any body that would have any clues or know of skeletons in their closets to do with illegitimate daughters, please email me. This family is from the TAREE NSW. Olga was born in TINONEE NSW in around 1910.

Mary Stout nee Murphy died at Morpeth on 16 March 1851 and was buried in the East Maitland Cemetery. At the time of her death at about 28 she had a husband, Adam Stout and two children, one of whom Catherine was my great great great grandmother.

Mary and Adam were married at Armidale, and after Mary's death Adam remarried. He died at Morpeth on 8 October 1860 and again was buried at East Maitland Cemetery. I understand Adam, just prior to his death was a Constable of Police working at the Maitland Gaol.

Information on burial of Mary at East Maitland confirmed through the Cemetery Index, Adam's details were on his death certificate.

Any information on this family, particularly confirmation of Adam's employment at time of death would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Bronwyn Ryan

GG Grandmother Ann Hoolaghan

I am trying to find my GG Grandmother Ann Hoolaghan, who came to Australia from Tullamore, Kings County, Ireland according to her son’s birth cert. She was born about 1825. Im guessing she would have arrived here about the 1840’s. Going by her marriage cert she worked somewhere at "Old Banks” near Woodville in the Hunter Valley NSW. Her surname is spelt in a variety of ways.

I am unable to find any trace of her what so ever.

She married Benjamin Franklin on the 5 Aug 1856 at Roman Catholic Church, East Maitland, NSW. It is believed that he came to Australia as a single man on the Earl Grey in 1851 and worked at Phoenix Park Morpeth, and later they moved to Albion Farm then to the property called ‘Lennoxton’ near Vacy and died on the property in 1874. His grave is at the Summer Hill cemetery, near there. The children of this marriage are listed on the NSW BDM death register as being buried at Morpeth.

Any assistance with this - needle in the haystack - would be greatly appreciated.

Gordon...........

Franklin - Phoenix Park

Hi all,
Can anyone provide me with information on a property called Phoenix Park NSW please?

My GG Grandfather - Benjamin Franklin was an assisted immigrant from England, who sailed here on the Earl Grey arriving in Sydney 15th October 1851; and according to the ships records was assigned to ‘Robertson’ of Phoenix Park.

It would appear that Ben remained at Phoenix Park until at least the birth of a son, (1870) as the birth is recorded as being at Phoenix Park. Going on their marriage certificate he married Ann Hoolagan, (could be incorrectly spelt) at St John’s East Maitland.

I am unable to locate their graves, and the NSW BDM are unable to provide me with assistance in that regard, as no death certificates seem to be available for either individual. However, they were able to provide me with the marriage certificate details, which is somewhat rather ironical.

I have some knowledge of their descendants but more information on any descendant from these individuals would be appreciated, does anyone know of an Old Burial ground in that vicinity – i.e. unmarked graves etc?

John Henry Wynn/Wynne

I am researching my family tree, my G G Grandfather, John Henry Wynn was a convict allowed to remain in the Maitland district from 1836/7. He was transported to NSW in 1827 aboard the "John 1" which berthed at Sydney Cove on 25 Nov 1827. He arrived in Maitland with his wife Catherine (née Delaney) who passed away in 1847 and is buried in a cemetery in West Maitland. I know from electoral records John leased Woodville Estate in or about 1870. He lived in Woodville and was a shopkeeper there with his 2nd wife Sarah Ann Wynn. Does anyone have any relevant information about John Wynn that might help me piece together something about his life in the Maitland District? They had 13 children, my G Grandfather Wilfred Percival Wynn was the last born in 1870. I don't have any information about Wilfred until 1903 when I found his name on the electoral roll in Sydney. Is there any way of finding out something about Wilfred as well? Are there any Wynns still living in the area who descend from John? I am a descendant of John and I now live in Brisbane Qld. Thank you for your time in reading this message and hopefully someone can assist me with these questions please.
i am seeking info on my gg grandmother ELIZABETH BEDELL (unable to locate her in a birth search or passenger lists, her death certificate overview at the bmd web-site does not name her parents) - she was born 1869 - 1871 - married THOMAS WAY (born 1863 in raymond terrace) in EAST MAITLAND in 1886 and she died in east maitland in 1932 (free bmd info says age 63) - she went on to have 13 children including my g grandmother ETHEL MAUDE WAY. they raised these children in east maitland/morpeth, THOMAS WAY died in west maitland in 1946.

also seeking info on WILLIAM HENRY SMITH who married MARY PYE (she was born 1852) - i dont have any birth or death dates for poor henry who apparently died young in a mine accident in the stockton area when his son was an infant - however i cant locate an accident that matches this timeframe (his only son/child was WILLIAM GEORGE SMITH - later known by surname BURT - he was born October 1886 - he was my g grandfather) mary then married HENRY BURT in 1887 and went on to have 6 more children (but sent william george away to gunnedah to be raised by an aunt) Mary and Henry lived in stockton, she died there in 1947

fingers crossed!
elizabeth

Hi

I am researching my husband's side of the family. His grandparents were William (Billy) and Amelia KILMARTIN nee CHURCH of Maitland NSW.

Amelia may also have been known as Millie or Nelly.
Amelia had siblings Maurice, Iris and Alice. I know that Iris and Alice are no longer alive but am having trouble trying to find marriage/death information on Maurice. He was born in approx 1919 and it is quite possible that he is still alive or died after 1977.

The CHURCH children belonging to Henry and Margaret CHURCH nee EDWARDS.

Billy passed away in 1969 but Amelia has 'disappeared' and I believe has not been seen or heard from since approx 1949. She left behind 5 children, the youngest being only 7yo.

The youngest child spent all his adult life trying to find her and he has now passed away.

If anyone has information on the CHURCH/KILMARTIN/EDWARDS families I would very much appreciate hearing from you.

Many thanks.
Julie

Have recently discovered relatives buried at Oakhampton Cemetary. Could they have chosen a more beautiful spot?

The people in question are Frederick Mears and his wife Sarah Ann (nee Johnstone.) They had nine children I am aware of.

One of their daughters, also a Sarah Ann, married Henry Hornblower in Maitland 1854. They had a number of children. In the mid 1860's they moved to Victoria. Their second child, Cordelia Victoria married George Howard in Deniliquin in 1881.

My great grandfather was the eldest of Cordelia V and George's seven children.

Would like to know if there are any descendants of the Mears or Hornblower clans interested in my branch of the family?

Would also like to know more information regarding the group buried at Oakhampton?

Look forward to all replies.

Cheers,

Lauren.
Hello

I am new to genealogical research but through online searches I have been tracing my Australian family history. It appears that three of my four grandparents were Australian descendants and I have found family connections for both my maternal grandparents but have come upon a sticking point around great-great and above ancestors.
I was passing through and noticed a distant relative posting about the Clouten family, specifically William Clouten who was married in 1858 in Maitland, and I'm wondering if anyone can shed light on the Clouten family of that time, and assist me with where to look for such information.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Old Photographs of the Maitland and Newcastle area

A couple of years ago, I inherited a suitcase full of old photographs. 80% of these beautiful old photographs are without names or dates. It is my intention that by placing them on this website, their identity will be revealed so the photos and their names may live on forever. The photographs include individuals that lived in or around the Maitland, Newcastle and Hunter Valley area. (although there are some photos from Sydney and Tweed Heads.) The date range is between 1865 to 1920.

The photographs are attached to the following website www.whatismyname.zoomshare.com.

Please visit this site and look through these lovely photos. There are about 90 photos separated into two folders. If by chance, you recognise a photograph, I would love to hear from you. Happy Viewing and Happy Hunting.

Fond Regards,
Jon Oldfield

Hi there,
I'm on the crazy but fun family tree hunting.
Mcmurray is the surname, John and margaret came to australia on a boat called the st vincent with their family. Their next child Jessie is born in morpeth and family marriages are also recorded as taking place in morpeth. Does anyone have information about the mcmurray family arriving in morpeth and where they may have lived. My guess is that John and his older boys would hve been invouled in farming.
Murder/Suicide

Help needed. Trying to gain information on murder suicide which took place on 10 October 1936 at Wangat River, Dungog. William Isaac Woodward was shot in the back by Thomas George Bramble who then died later of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Both were buried at Bungwahl Cemetery. I am unable to travel to do lookups and so I'm hoping that someone that reads this may be able to help. Surely a murder/suicide would have been somewhat newsworthy or left a paper trail somewhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards Louise

Other families of interest are:
Waugh,Dix,Cooper,Perry
Nichols,Baker,Madden,Matthews,Broadhead,Spinks
Wyborn,Storey,Monnox,Price
Woodward,Searle,Merrick,Hayne,Dunbar
Delaney,Morante,Barclay,Johnson,
Kirkland,Bird

HANKS Family of Maitland

I am researching the family of Thomas HANKS and Harriet MITCHELL who lived in a residence in Newcastle Street, East Maitland for many generations. Thomas was a bootmaker and arrived in Sydney with his mother, Phoebe, brother James and two sisters, Mary and Eliza in September 1839. Not long after that he settled in Maitland where he married Harriet in January 1850. They only had one child, Thomas Charles who was born in March 1856. Thomas married Emma TACON in Maitland in March 1880. They had a large family including Harriet May, Lucy Agnes, Florence Amy, Huntley Adell, Cyril, Raymond Thomas, Frederick Trevellyn and William Ralph.

Family legend has it that Phoebe HANKS died in Maitland in August 1852 but I have been unable to find a death registration for her. Does anyone have access to local MI transcriptions that might be able to assist me in my search for her grave? Any help gratefully appreciated.

Regards,
Melanie Steer
Bowral NSW
Hello. Am hoping to trace my grandfather's family. He was James Albert, son of William Watson (born in England c.1821) & Margaret Daley (born in NSW 1841). I know there were various brothers & sisters, including William, who ran a cordial factory in Maitland in early 1900s, & Elizabeth Rebecca, who married William Stowe. James Albert moved to Qld & married my grandmother in Mackay in 1904.
