There is in my family, lore that has to do with pirates and/or privateers. As the story goes, this young couple just got off the boat, she very much pregnant, and not a cent between them. No where to go, no place to live and no food. A man approached them and offered them a place to live and food if they would name their child, if a boy, after him. The couple named their first born, a boy, Thomas and they always had a place to live and food. Since, there has always been a Thomas, the first born boy of each descending family.
