Classification: Query
Surnames: Benning
Hello,

I do not know about Ancestry having the DAR Lineage Books as a database, but the books only have listings of the qualified patriots, not a listing of our members and their numbers.

Patriot: John Benning
Service: Virginia
Rank: Captain
Birth: 10 Dec 1737 in Mannikintown, VA
Death: 6 Mar 1809 in Columbia Co., GA
Service: Capt. Baldow Company
Residence during war: Goochland Co., VA
Wife: Sally Cobb

National #1590 was the first DAR member to apply using this patriot (John Benning) and she descended through John Benning's son Pleasant Moor Benning and his wife, Malinda Lewis White.

You may request a copy of a proven application with the Patriot's information and specify the child through which you descend. You might indicate that you would like the application of this particluar member number, and if it is available, they will send you the record copy. Please send this information with a check in the amount of $10.00 (one request per envelope) payable to "Treasurer General, NSDAR."

1776 D Street NW
Washington, DC 20006-5303

Please allow 6-8 weeks as this DAR office is very busy.

Good luck with your research.

Kathy
