Hi Christee,
I am happy to report that there is one patriot named Cranford in our index. There are a total of 12 Countryman patriots; nine of those are from NY and one is from Pennsylvania. It is quite a lot of information, so is there a possibility you could narrow down the selection of New York Countryman patriots from these names?
Cranford, John Sr, Ancestor #A027496
Service: NC, Patriotic Service (Paid for goods or service rendered)
b. circa 1720-25 in MD
d. after 4 April 1785 in Onslow Co., NC
residence: Onslow Co., NC
spouse: no name shown
----------------------------------------------
Countryman, George, Ancestor #A026477
service: PA, Court Martial Man
service description: (1) CMMan Man, Capt. Rhoad's Co. of Brothers; (2) Valley also Col. Wm. Parke 1st Batt.
b. circa 1735 in PA
d. 13 Jun 1779 in Berlin, near Bedford Co., PA
residence: Bedford Co., PA
Spouse: Rachel Milhaus
----------------------------------------------
Patriots serving NY:
Countryman, Adam, #A026474**, 1768-1851
Countryman, Conrad Jr, #A026476, bef. 1745-aft. 1790
Countryman, Conrad Sr, #A026475**, c. 1689-1777
Countryman, Conrad M., #A134166, 1749-1817
Countryman, George, #A026478, c.1738-bef. 1809
Countryman, John, #A026481, 1736-1789
Countryman, John, #A026482, 1748-1839
Countryman, John M., #A205189, 1754-1806
Countryman, Nicholas, #A026483, 1763-1844
Because there are many similar names, I copied the birth & death years to differentiate between men. Are any of these fellows the ones you're seeking?
Also please note that patriots marked "**" are closed lines and future applicants through these patriots must prove correct service.
I hope this is helpful to you. I'd be happy to pull more information on specific patriots if you can narrow it down a bit.
You may order a copy of a member's application paper citing your patriot's service. To do so, write to our national headquarters, including the above information from the Patriot Index and a check made payable to the TREASURER GENERAL, NSDAR in the amount of $10.00.
Mail this to Library Copy Services, DAR, 1776 D Street, N.W., Washington, DC 20006-5303. Please send only one request and check per envelope and allow 6-8 weeks to receive a reply.
Member application papers can give you genealogical information, sources of documents, and a list of the ancestor's children, if known.
If you or someone in your family is interested in joining DAR, please send me your name, complete address and telephone number and I will forward it on to a chapter near you.
If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.
Regards,
Laura
