So long as it contains the proper reference information, it would probably be good IF this were an older death and death certificates were not yet implemented in that area.

Something this recent, you will need the primary record, which is the death certificate. I know this because the obit for my great-grandmother was not sufficient to prove, in these more modern times, that my grandmother (who had married twice) was the same person who had married my grandfather. I had to get BOTH of her marriage certificates as well as her birth and death certificates.
