In doing research on my family, I found a document for Viola Gertrude Whitley Darden, where she applied and was accepted to the DAR. She was my Great grandfather, Robert Freeman Whitley 1st cousin. Robert's father and Viola's father were half brothers, and sons of Jesse Whitley (1810-1865). Jesse's Great grandfather was William D. Whitley (1720-1801) married to Penelope Turner and they lived in Isle of Wight, Va.
William's son was Elisha Whitley, who was the father of Elisha Jr.. who was the father of Jesse.
In Viola's app. for DAR she use the follwing for William D. Whitley:
Va. State Library records,, ADU, ACC. XXII Page 402 " to William Whitley for special duties preformed '21-3-46'"
By your records was William D Whitley a soilder in the American Revolution, and what does the '21-3-46' stand for?
