I wasn't able to find your David Davis. I was wondering if you had access and could look him up in the PA Archives? This might give you some more information. Not being in the patriot lookup doesn't mean he wasn't a patriot. he very well might have been. All it means is that no one joining the DAR has used him as their patriot.
