Thanks to several of my correspondents on the Losh family, I am able to share the following information. According to information generously given to me by one of my husband's relatives, Flora Virgie Losh was born June 4, 1892, in Gassaway, WV, (Steer Creek). (Some sources list her name as Flora Vergie Losh.) Flora died on January 31, 1972, in Vermilion, Ohio, were she was living at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Griffith. According to obituaries, survivors included another son, Bernard Griffith, of Spencer WV, and sisters, Bessie Jeffries, Cora McLaughlin, Mae Murphy, and a brother, Charles Losh, (all of Gassaway WV), and Jessie White of Kingwood WV. Also surviving her were five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion, Ohio.
Flora was a daughter of Abraham Rudolph Losh and his wife, Amanda Jane Thoms, (daughter of William N. and Elizabeth Thoms.) Abraham Rudolph Losh and Amanda Thoms married on December 5, 1883 in Harrison County WV. According to Book V, page 809 of the Harrison County Marriage Book, he was age 24 at the time of this marriage and he was born in Rockingham County VA, son of David and Elizabeth Losh. Amanda was age 24 at the time of their marriage and she was born in Taylor County WV. Both were residing in Harrison County WV at the time of the marriage. Another Losh relative shared with us that Abraham Rudolph Losh was also known as "Rue". He was married three times. We do not know the name of his first wife, but the names of their children were Emma Losh and Robert Losh. (Robert married Anna Eliza Lipps on December 22, 1899). Abraham Rudolph Losh's third wife was Mrs. Mary Dobbins of Braxton County WV. They married on August 30, 1922 in Braxton County WV. He was listed as age 58 at time of this third marriage and she was listed as age 48.
Amanda J. Losh died on November 4, 1918, in Braxton County WV. Abraham Rudolph Losh died in November of 1928. The Braxton newspaper wrote that "A.R. Losh, who resided near Davison, died suddenly Monday at the home of a neighbor, where he had gone to look at some cattle. Mr. Losh had been married three times and was the father of eleven children. He was an honest, industrious man and was highly esteemed in the community in which he resided. He was a brother of Alex Losh, formerly of Sutton. Interment was made in the James Carr cemetery, near Belfont, Wednesday."
Flora was a fraternal twin to Cora Elizabeth Losh. Flora married Eddison Griffith. Cora married Thomas Benton McLaughlin, Jr.
Flora and Cora had several siblings including William Ervin Losh, Jessie Selena Losh, Bessie Myrtle Serina Losh, Walter Henry McNeil Losh, Charles Haymon Losh, Minnie May Losh, and Thomas "Earl" Losh, (my husband's grandfather). Earl was born June 6, 1896 in Braxton County WV, died October 18, 1964. He married Ada Blanche Linger, born July 18, 1894 in Lewis County WV, died January 24, 1974.
