Help with Gravestone Symbol

My g-grandfather's headstone has a symbol that I cannot identify on it. His son's grave has the familiar looking masonic compass symbol. He has what appears to be a shield and on the shield (hard to make out the carving) it looks like maybe light emanating from the center and some lines that look like arrows. Outside the shield there is a "C" on the left and an "A" on the right. He immigrated from
England and lived in CT from 1905 til death in 1926. I would appreciate any help.
