Hello!
Shriners are a branch of the masonic family. You must be a mason before you can be a shriner.
The photo you attached shows "Ansar" on the fez. Was your father from Illinois. There is an Ansar Temple in Illinois. Here is the link to their web page: http://www.ansarshrine.com/
If you are interested in your father's masonic record, you can contact the Illinois Grand Lodge. They should have all of the information concerning his Masonic career. Here is their web page: http://www.ilmason.org/
