Here is some info I have on one branch of my family tree, starting with the grandfather of William Meredith (Mariett?) Broome who was born 6/16/1827 in Hall Co Georgia.

His decendants lived primarily in South Carolina (Oconee Co.)but several generations moved back and forth to Georgia.

If anyone has additional birth/death/marriage dates on any of these people, or just additional general information on their lives I would be so grateful!

M. 1849 to Mary Elizabeth “Betsie” Butler (b. 4/8/1827, she was a popular area midwife, her sister Emily Butler married a Mike Broome, Mike’s relation to these Brooms undetermined at this time.)

Notes: Verbal family history says that William migrated from Mulenberg Co. on Charlotte, NC to Stone Mountain GA by wagon mule train with brothers Daniel and Thomas to be stone workers. They lived in Gainsville, GA and possibly married Cherokee women. (Could this verbal story be referring to his father John and two of John’s brothers?) William was in Co. B of the 2nd South Carolina Rifles and was a great sharpshooter. He is buried in a cow pasture that used to belong to Daniel (brother or son?) and the grave used to be tended by “Aunt Ida” (wife of grandson George).
