My ancestors aew supposedly buied at a cementary on lost mountain. I have pictures of gravestones of some that people added to my family tree. If you could find information on the
Clay Family, especially Georgia Ann Clay, Emma Clay Mackey, and James Newton Clay, I would appreciate it. My grandfather, Hayward Newton Mackey claimed he was Cherokee Indian. I am trying to find more about my Clay and Mackey ancestry. My father did not know much as his parents separated when he was 8 and he saw his father rarely. Thanks

Am seeking confirmation of a marriage of Martha Branch born approximately 1808 in Virginia to Joseph L Tate born app 1801 in New York. He was a grocer in Hancock County Georgia. He married a Martha Bartlett in 1844 in Hancock County Georgia. Cannot find any confirmation of the marriage to Martha Branch however. Census records do not show him having a wife until 1850 and Martha Bartlett is listed there.
Hi Judy, I am Joyce (Hines) Smith. My Daddy is your grandmother's (Jessie) brother. I'm assuming you are Pat's daughter.
Anyway, this is what I have finally found out regarding Talitha. Sarah Jane Shepard married Thomas Smith and they had Talitha. Thomas died and Sarah married John McNeal. On the census record I found it lists John, Sarah, Talitha, and
James McNeal. It notes James( age3) as son, but does not list Talitha (age 14) as daughter. It looks like Talitha used her stepdad's last name until she marries Levi Thomas Mercer, then used her legal last name (Smith). Hope this helps. I am on Ancestry under Hines/Colvin.

I live on a foothill of Lost Mountain and I can tell you that it is not in Hiram, Ga. Hiram is 13 miles from here in another county. It is located off of Dallas Hwy known as 120 and Highway 176. Our mailing address is Kennesaw Ga although some subdivisions not too far has their mailing address of Powder Springs, Ga. Lost Mountain is almost 2000ft tall and it is located about 8 miles west of downtown Marietta, Ga. There was a civil war battle here and we have trenches on our lot from where the Confederates dug. They are quite deep ditches. Where our clubhouse now stands, some neighbors say that when it was being built they found remains of a Cherokee Indian village. So Lost Mountain has a lot of history but it is hard to find anything written about it. Currently, the very top of the mountain is being developed for million dollar homes and the view is amazing. You can see the tall buildings of downtown Atlanta in the distance. Atlanta is about 20-23 miles south of here. Hope that helps. Oh, I didn't mention it is beautiful here.
My Grandfather and Grandmother (John H. Callahan and Maggie E. Grant)lived in Dalton, Whitfield, Georgia in 1900. They got married that year. They were staying with John's sister Mattie and her husband James Head Seay in their boarding house. James and Mattie had one child at that time. Her name was Bessie. I do know that John and Maggie later had 10 children and moved to Knoxville, Tennessee..I descended from one of those children. John was born in 1880 as far as I can find out and Maggie around that time. She came from South Carolina to Dalton but, I don't know anything about my Grandfather John. He and Maggie had both passed away by the time I was born. Can you help me? Maggie died in 1929 in Knoxville, Tennessee and John died in 1932 in Knoxville, Tennessee. I would like to find out where the Callahan's originated from also.

It looks like I'm about 10 years late responding to this, but I attend Midway Presbyterian Church in what was formerly referred to as Lost Mountain. The original church building was built in 1850 and we have a cemetery plot with some 19th century graves and access to a few records about the community. Unfortunately many of our earliest records were lost in 1866 due to Civil War battles. If you are still interested I may be able to help or find the information you are looking for.

Beverly,
This is an old posting, but I just now read it. Maybe by now you have already found your Smith ancestors. If not, the person you want to contact is Betty (Smith) Horne at bettyhorne@bellsouth.net who has a family history site: Our Families, A to Z. She can tell you about John Raleigh Smith and Samuel John Smith who married Alsa Maddox (Maddocks). Send her an email and she will respond. I believe that my Hampton Hilliard Smith whose father was Jesse Smith, b. 1800 in GA may have come from Wm. B. Buckner who was the father of Samuel Hohn Smith. Good luck. Let me know if you made contact. zenogo1@yahoo.com or at this site. Zenna Smith
It's Betty again. Yes, Alsa Maddox or Alice or Alsey and her name may have been Maddocks...was believed to be Cherokee. I think her father was probably European which is how she came to have the name Maddox..or Maddocks...her mother may have been full Cherokee. I have not been able to find ANY records...and believe that our Cherokee ancestors married whites and became known as white to escape being sent on the Trail of Tears.

This is just speculation.
I am trying to identify the children of Lewis Byne and Mary Jordan. They were married 10-29-1818 in Jefferson County Georgia. In 1850 Lewis age 72 born in VA is shown with Laura and 2 children Leonard H b abt 1843 and Frances A P dau b. abt 1850. I am assuming that the Lewis Byne who married Martha Harvey, Mary Jordan and Laura is the same person. A male child F. M. Byne migrated to Marion County MS in 1860. He is living with James A Jordan believed to be Mary's brother. After Lewis died Laura and her 2 children lived in Richmond Georgia. She worked as a seamstress. Lewis' occupation in 1850 is physcian.

I am descended from William Raleigh Smith, through James Caleb Smith and Cordealia Smith. Based on my reasearch, I had believed that Cordealia was the the daughter of James Caleb Smith and Cynthia Dill, logic since they were married in 1865 and Cordealia was born in 1866. However, I just discovered Cordealia's original death certificate online, which listed a Lindy Patterson as her Mother and James Caleb Smith as her Father. My Grandpa Ed Smith, Cordealia's oldest son, had provided the information. It appears that either Cynthia Dill was not his wife for long, or that Cordealia was not legitimate. Having researched further, there were both a John and William Patterson of note in Banks County at the time.
Also, I would like to know when James Caleb Smith was discharged from CSA, when his various marriges occurred, if he ever married Lindy Patterson, how his marriages ended and where he is buried. All my life, my mother Emma Lee Bell Smith Martin, daughter of Ed Smith, told us that her Great Grandpa Cale went to Duck Town, TN and died there. Any information would be appreciated.
Finally, Samuel John Smith's duaghter Catherine who married James Simmons, is listed as half Cherokee. Who was the Cherokee, Sam or Alsa Maddox. Since I have not found the Father of Sam, am I to believe that he was Cherokee?
