GA but recent information says the family was in Floyd County, GA. Possible connection with person buried in Myrtlehill Cemetary. Any help would be appreciated. Following a lead I have spent too much time researching Houston County while now I find out they were up in Floyd County.

Looking for Mathis/Mathews/Murdoch/Gaskin/Brown ancestors who lived in Chattooga County in late 1800's and in 1900's. Mathis descendents still living in Chattooga County. I am daughter of Flora Lee Mathis Brown and Robert E Lee Brown. I was born in Armuchee, Georgia. My grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Mathis and great grandmother Sarah Anna (Ann) Mathews/Mathis. gggrandparents were William Mathews and Nancy Murdoch. All these lived in Chattooga County. I will be in Chattooga County during the first week in July, leaving here June 29 to go to Georgia. Any thoughts on best using my time there would be appreciated.

I am searching for information on my great great grandfather Thomas Porter Campbell who lived in Paulding/Polk Counties of Georgia. He is buried in Polk County at Van Wert. His son, my great grandfather was James Oscar Campbell, and my grandfather was Thomas Malcolm Campbell. Thomas Porter married twice after his first wife Jane Hulsey passed away. His second wife was Malinda Heaton, daughter of John R. Heaton

Thomas Porter was listed in the 1850 census as coming to Paulding County from North Carolina with his brother Belt Campbell. They are shown as living with Isaac Ward. He later shows up in the 1870 census in Polk County.

These are my great grandparents and I am having the hardest time finding any information. Lucy was his second wife and she died in Sept 1937 leaving 8 children, so he remarried(2 more times). My grandmother had told me he was married all together 4 times, however, only had children with his first and second wife. He was born 1887 or 1888 and died 1966 or 1967.

James Claude Morris and his first wife had 3 children and I know that two were was named Earl and Lora or Laura.
The 1920 census show that they lived in Murray County, GA and in 1930 they lived in Bartow County, GA. I cannot find any information before that. Please someone help me out!! :)

I would like to contact descendants of Carrie and Sallie Rice who were daughters of Andrew Rice, a Baptist minister and Keziah Gilreath Donald Rice. She was daughter of George H. Gilreath, and married first to William J. Donald. She married Andrew Rice about 1873. Sallie was born about 1878 and Carrie about 1881. They also had a brother named Jim, who may have died young. I do not find them after the 1900 Bartow census, and have no idea who the girls married or where they went. Can anyone help?

I have found the parents of Roda Adeline Ramey, they were Isaac Ramey and Elizabeth Williams, trying now to find the last name of Isaac King's wife Catharine, I think it might have been Canada. James and Roda had a daughter, her name was Catharine Elizabeth Sarah Canada King, she was my greatgrandmother. In 2000, I had listed a request on Catharine Elizabeth as Katie Elizabeth Sarah Casada King, it was wrong, I found an uncle who told me her name was Catharine Elizabeth Sarah Canada King.

Looking for information on James White, b. c. 1776 in Union county NC, d. around 1848 in Cherokee county GA.
Believe this man lived with Cherokee tribe, married a member of the tribe.
Wife's name believed to be Mary something (possibly Barker) who was b. about 1780 (place unknown), d. about 1855 in Cherokee county GA. James White & wife are thought to be buried in area of Conns Creek Baptist Church.
Children included Elizabeth (m. McClure), Jane (m. Gilleland), Hugh (m. Wilkie), Thomas (m. Gilmore) - possibly others.
ANY information on this man & his descendants would be most appreciated. Of particular interest is the Gilleland descendancy.

My family tree includes Roderick (1798, VA) and Rachel Moore (1803, SC) Shelton.

Does anyone know who Rachel's parents were and where they came from? On 1880 Census, Shelton Laurel, Madison, NC, Rachel, widow, is living with daughter Nancy Franklin, and lists herself, father, and mother as all being born in South Carolina. Yet all the trees I see have her father as coming from New Jersey.

Peter and Arabella Barefield

I am researching Peter Barefield (Burfield/Barfield) born about Aug. 1848 in Georgia. Sir name is spelled different ways on different census. Wife is Arabella born about October 1845 in Georgia. They were married in Georgia before relocating to Choctaw County, Alabama about 1866-1868. I am trying to identify Peter Barefield’s parents living in Georgia, and also Arabella's parents living in Georgia.

Best I can tell there first child died very young. Some other children are:
-Henry Barefield B: About 1867, Alabama
-Annie Barefield B: About 1870, Alabama
-Fannie Barefield B: About 1872, Alabama

I am researaching Joseph Ryan Waldrop who married Caroline Wikerson in 1851 in Macon , Georgia,Bib County.

He was only married to her for a short while and then he moved on and she moved back in the boarding house where she was living when she met Joseph R. Waldrop. I do not know if they had children or not. He was a Physician and a Minister.

He was born in Gwinnett County, Georgia in 1826.

I would love to talk to someone in the early 1850s, that might have an ancestor named Carolina Wilkerson Waldrop.

Northview Cemetery

I just had a look up in the Laurens County Northview Cemetery. 2 obits states family are buried in Northview cemetery. This look up stated they were not there. Now I do not know if they went by Cemetery transcriptions or by going to view tombstones. Anyway they did not find any of the family members there.
The people I am looking for lived in Fulton and Cobb Counties. Was there another Northview Cemetery way back around 1910-1925?

Maley and/or Hunter families

I am looking for any information on my great grandparents, Frank, (maybe went by Felix) Hunter, and Haseltine Maley. They were married in Gainesville about 1873, had two children, Marion P. and Berdie, and probably lived there for a short time. Frank (or Felix) left the family probably just a few years after they were married, and supposedly moved somewhere in France. He was of French descent, but I don't know where his family came from in France or where they first arrived when coming to the U.S..
I do know in 1880 Haseltine (also may have been called "Tiny," lived in Maysville, or Banks Co. with her mother, Mary and brother, Luther, and the 2 kids.
She may have later married a Benjamin West, but I have lost track of her after 1880.
If anyone has any scraps of information, I certainly would appreciate it. Thanks

Why deed to LETT's children given by KINMAN & GRANT? 1801 Wilkes

I'm looking for any additional information on a deed that was made in Wilkes county, GA in 1801.

James KINMAN and Thomas GRANT deeded a lot of goods to "the children of Daniel Lett" and did so "for the consideration of the pity & compassion we have to the family of Daniel Lett" "Without any consideration whatsoever"

The deed does not indicate whether LETT was alive or dead, and does not mention their mother at all. The children were all under 11 years of age at the time.

I suspect there may have been a family relationship between the children and at least one of the men, but I have no idea why they were deeded the materials. I would greatly appreciate any additional information on this deed.

Riley operated a merchantile store on old Howard Street in Rome from as early as 1850. Riley died sometime after 1864 in Rome. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Rome.

After his death, his wife continued to operate the merchantile store as late as 1900. Via sextant records, Mrs. R J Johnson was buried at Myrtlehill Cemetery which would indicate Riley was also buried there. However have yet to be able to locate their grave sites.

Seeking any information on this family and their decendants.

Miles was the fraternal twin brother of Elizabeth Chandler "Milley" Johnston who married William Newman Pounds of Gwinnett County, GA.

Married about 1849 to Sarah Ann Frances Matilda White

Sarah Ann Frances Matilda White - b: 1 Jul 1830 in Greene County, GA; d: 15 Mar 1862 in Rome, Floyd County, GA. d/o William H White Jr and Jane Sarah McIntyre

Miles and Sarah were living in Rome, Floyd County, GA by 1850. On that census, they were enumerated in her parents household and right after Miles' brother Riley J Johnson. Miles and his family remained in Rome, Floyd County until his death.

The family name was originally Johnston. However Scot tradition made it acceptable to spell the name with or without the "t", as well as pronounce the name with or without the "t".

Known Surviving Children were:

Nora Jane Johnson - b: 18 Oct 1853 in Rome, Floyd County, GA; d: 04 Jan 1930 in Sasser, Terrell County, GA. m1st - John D Carver about 1879. m2nd Robert M Anthony Sr about 1895. No known children from either marriage.

William White Johnson - b: 4 Aug 1857 in Rome, Floyd County, GA d: 1 Apr 1923 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, NC. Married on 28 Jun 1893 in Whitfield County, GA to Arabella Kenan Horne (d/o Elijah Pearce Horne and Tallulah Johnson). Arabella - b: 11 May 1869 in Griffin, Spalding County, GA; d: 26 Nov 1958 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, NC. Known children were: Hershel Vespasian Johnson (03 May 1894 - 25 Nov 1966), Jane Carver Johnson (b: 20 Jan 1896), Arabella Horne Johnson (b: 18 Apr 1898 d: 01 Nov 1974 m: Martin Ervin Boyer Jr), Mary Frances Johnson (b: 25 May 1902 d: 25 May 1902) and Catherine Moore Johnson (b: about 1904 d: ?)

Walter McIntyre Johnson - b: 19 Jul 1859 in Rome, Floyd County, GA; d: 17 Jun 1926 in ??; m: ?? children: ??

Mary Frances White Johnson - b: 16 Oct 1861 in Rome, Floyd County, GA d: about 1910 in ?? m; ?? children: ??

Miles was a Saddler, Harness Maker, Merchant and Land Speculator in Rome. He was said to have been really close to his oldest brother, Riley J Johnson, and his family. Another brother, William Harrison Johnson, and his family also lived in Floyd County.

After the death of William H White, Jane Sarah McIntyre White lived with Miles and his family. This continued after the death of Sarah Ann Frances Matilda White Johnson.

Sometime just before 1880, Miles apparently died, as both Jane Sarah McIntyre White and Walter McIntyre Johnson were living with Elizabeth Rush Johnson (widow of Riley J Johnson). Walter was a clerk in Elizabeth's merchantile store on old Howard Street, while Jane Sarah McIntyre White was listed as keeping house.

Shorlty after 1880, Jane Sarah McIntyre White either moved to live with or visit her granddaughter, Nora Jane Johnson Carver in Macon, Bibb County, GA. Jane Sarah McIntyre White died in 1883 while in Macon. However, her remains were brought back and buried at Myrtlehill Cemetery in Rome, Floyd County, GA.

To date, I have been unable to find the exact date and place of Mile's death, place of Walter McIntyre Johnson's death, or the possible family of Walter McIntyre Johnson or that of Mary Frances Johnson.

Any information on the Miles William Bailey Johnson / Johnston family and it's descendants will be greatly appreciated.

He married Malinda Angeline Roe from Talking Rock about 1879 or 1880 Malinda was born August ??, 1860.
They had 8 children - Homer Edger, Jonh Wesley, Will, Lester, Lula, Azzie, Cora, Mebbie
Homer Robert's parents are listed on the death certificate only as: R.L. Jackson born in GA and Louisa Jane Barnett or Barrett (handwriting is difficult) born in GA.

Need assistance locating gravesite of John Jackson(1783-1859) & Matha Moye (Jackson) near Barnesville, Georgia. Several notes indicate site at Fredonia Church Cemetery near Barnesville, but not listed on published records I've found thus far.

Also interested in talking with those in the John Jackson line from Jones & Wilkes counties. Have run into a dead locating John's parents. I know he was born in Culpepper County Virginia in 1793, but that's about it.

John is my ggggggrandfather. For those interested, I have information on his direct line that moved to Texas most likely in the 1870s.

Jeremiah must have died soon after the 1880 census.
Some of his daughters removed to Lawrence Co, AL by 1894.

My 3xgreat grandfather was Hugh (HR) Hardin that was born in Georgia on March 31, 1849. His first marriage was to Savanna Quinn in Gordon County in 1871. She died soon after and he married again to Mamie Stewart. Both are buried in Covington County, Mississippi. I have had a great deal of difficulty identifying the parents of Hugh. In the 1860 census there is a Hugh (age 12) living with a Mary Hardin (age 64) in Gordon County. In the 1870 census there is a Hugh (age 22) living with Mary (age 73). I am guessing that Mary may be Hugh's grandmother based on the ages. Any ideas or connections out there?

30 Year search for my father

What I'm trying to do is to find my father I had gotten information that he died in Tifton but I'm unable to fined an obit on him, I have tried the local newspapers with no luck. My records shows that he died Aug. 20th,1980 (If this is him)His name was Jerry Watson and he was born Feb.13th ,1920. I was about 8-9 years old when he left and I'm 48 now and have been looking for him for alot of years,and this is the closest I've ever gotten and I'm hopeing that this is him. I'm also working on our family history and found out that his father (my grandfather) is Buried here in Fort Wayne IN. and his name was Farris Watson and he died in 1948. I emailed the local paper ther in Tifton to see if they could check the obit archives but never got a
responce from them. I would like to come to Tifton just to see what I could come up with, the social security death index shows that his last benefit was sent to Tifton GA. Amanda Redman and Thomas Lance around 1865 give or take a couple of years I'm guessing. I find them on the census before their marriage. (note: Redman is also sometimes Redmon or Redmond also Martha Isabel Killian was the second wife of Thomas JD Lance)

Amanda Redman is on the 1860 census with her mother, Susanna Forester Redman Stone, her stepfather John Stone, her natural siblings Dallas and Emanuel. They are in GILMER Co. Her birth father was Stephen Redman.

Thomas JD Lance is on the 1860 census with his mother Catherine and father Thomas. They are in FANNIN Co.

By March 15, 1867 my ggrandmother Mary Lance is born to Amanda & Thomas JD Lance.
By May 23, 1868 my ggrandmothers brother John Thomas Lance is born to Amanda & Thomas JD Lance.

I am also looking for birth records for these two children. Mary Lances death certificate says she was born in Fannin Co. But of course someone else gave the information.

I am still looking for Imfo. on William Perry Alexander Griffin Born September 20, 1863 on his mom & dad. His Death Certificte did not list them. Is there some place else I can look from them in 1863 to 1945. would his kids school recards. He was born Tennessee, raisedin Georgia and ran away to his late teens Texas. I was told his Mother and two sisters wher still a live in the 1900 I don't know about his dad. All census I have looked at have came up blank.

Looking for information/relatives of Hampton Smith, born in GA around 1833-35. Family moved to Rockford, Coosa, AL where Hampton was married to a Harriet ? and on 1860 census with children: William H., Harriet, John H., Lion, and Osa. 2nd marriage to Margaret L. Pearson of Talladega, AL with whom he had my father, J. C. Smith, born Jan. 4, 1891 and a sister, Minnie M. (Smith) Merritt, born 1878 in AL.. A brother , Harrison Smith, also served in same Confederate Regiment, 59th, with Hamp and lived in Clanton, AL. Would appreciate any data on family.

Hi,
The 1881 cecus for Scotland lists Osmond McDonald as being born in Georgetown, Demerara, West Indies.

He married Isabella McARTHUR in Edinburgh on 8th Aug. 1876.

They had a family of Charles b.1874, Henry O b.1879, Mary b.1878 and Osmond b.1883.

It is my belief that this family may have travelled to USA during the 1890,s.

The IGI site states a Charles McDonald b. 20th Aug 1874 died April 1966.

How do I go about checking his death certificate to check on his parents names.

Would any lister have access to information regarding this family.

Any help would be appreciated.

I believe she was Indian, Maybe Cherokee. She married Thomas Jefferson Pope, in 1849, Washington Co. Arkansas. An 1860 Census, showed her father was born in Georgia. He might have been born abt 1805. What were the Indian Reservations, in the early 1800's?

My great grandfather, John Henry Townsend was born in Georgia (Spalding GA on his death cert). He father two children Wilbur/Homer and Lee around the turn of 1900. Around this time we think he hopped over to Alabama where he married my great grandmother, Carrie Parsons. His parents were George Washington Townsend and Mary Elizabeth Neal. I don't think he will have a birth certificate because he was on a farm, but is there any way to find out further info on his parents, such as dates. This is my family name, so I really need to go back further!

William Boyd married Elizabeth Burton about 1816 in Laurans County, SC and soon moved to northern Georgia. They had 4 children: James Boyd b. abt 1816 Hall Co.; Samuel Newton Boyd b. 24 Nov 1818 Hall Co., Wier Boyd b. 14 Sep 1820 Hall Co., and Rachel Boyd b. 1823 Hall Co.

William's wife died in 1828 in Lawrenceville, Gwinett Co. (I would like to know what cemetery she is buried at).

It was not until my reserach years later that I discovered a deed of William Boyd which stated he was in Floyd County in the year 1838. It lists the above children and two more by a second wife not named but the chldren were. Their names were Nancy and Margaret. (I would like to know who William's second wife was and whatever happen to these two children).

If anyone has any clues or ideas for me finding this information, I would appreciate it and thanks in advance for your help.

MAJOR CORRECTIONS to W.C. Ferguson story....

Well, I really blew it on this story. I was telling my mother about the message I had left on the message boards about W.C. Ferguson. I told her what I had written. When I was done she asked me where in the world I got THAT story!!!! To be honest, I thought that was what was told to me as a kid. Obviously, I wasn’t even in the ballpark!!! This is the CORRECT story, as told to my mother by Willie Mae herself in the 1970's when she came up to visit us in CT.

Willie Mae Palmer went to school with W.C. Ferguson in the Rome, Floyd County area. Willie Mae was from a lower class, “other side of the tracks” family. W.C. was from a family that was a few notches higher. W.C. got Willie Mae pregnant in the summer of 1944 and when his parents got wind of it, they quickly sent him away to college somewhere in the mid-west (Iowa, Illinois...???). After this, Willie Mae never saw him again or even tried to find him. Willie Mae was born in 1926 so the W.C. Ferguson I’m looking for should be very close in age. A couple of years after my father was born, she married J.W. Graham (1947) and was on her way to having 8 more kids (3 that didn’t make it).

So...as you can see the story I first posted wasn’t ANYWHERE near being accurate!!! I don’t know where I came up with that. I apologize!! As it turns out W.C. was well aware of this pregnancy. I hope this now helps me find the correct W.C. Ferguson and his family.
