Need information on Gottlieb (b. abt 1829) and Verona (b. abt 1826, maiden name unk) Schottlin (also seen as Schoettlin, Schuttlin and Shottlin); immigrated to USA abt 1862-1865 from Hallau, Schaffhausen, Switzerland; settled in Evansville, Vanderburgh Co, IN, USA, area. Gottlieb died b/t 1870-1880; Verona died 1910 in Evansville, IN, USA. Spellings on the last names are creative in immigration and census records. They had 6 children (two known are Jacob, b. abt 1865, in Vanderburgh Co, IN, USA; Peter, b. abt 1862 in Switzerland); only one child was still living in 1910 (believe that was Jacob). Looking particularly for marriage and birth records but will take any information.

TROTTs in the Mid-West

The TROTT One-Name Research Group (TONRG), based in England, is now active in the U.S. and I am attempting to contact as many descendants as possible with the surname TROTT in the Mid-West. I invite you to visit our website:

http://www.sherwoodfam.plus.com/tonrg/origins.htm

We are excited about the TROTT-DNA Surname Project which was recently organized through Family Tree DNA. If you are interested in participating, please visit our website:

http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_det.asp?group=Trott&amp...

Through the DNA program, we hope to identify TROTT families in the U.S. and eventually tie them into their European roots.

TROTTs were on the East Coast as early as the mid-1600s and, as frontiers opened, quickly spread across the U.S. I am attempting to contact as many TROTT descendants as possible and establish a North American database so we can track these various families. I look forward to hearing from you.

Robert Greenlee

Looking for information on the following Robert Greenlee family. They are listed in the 1860 census living in Whiteside County, Illinois. Acording to this census record, Robert would have been born about 1810 in Ohio. His wife, Eliza E., would have been born about 1819 in Vermont. Of the seven children listed, one Wilson would have been born about 1840 in Ohio and they had one what appears to be one set of twins, Rachel and Francis A., both listed as being age 12 at the time of this census. Any information on this family would be appreciated.
Thank you,
M. Hamrick

CLEVELAND, OHIO-Carl Webb and Imogene Webb-Genealogy.com Online Family Tree, "Winters-Webb-Hawley-Bishop", son of Evert Deforest Webb

Attention: the Individual who contributed to the Ancestry.com Online Family Tree, “Winters-Webb-Hawley-Bishop. Would you please let me know the SOURCE of the name of the spouse of Carl Webb, whom you believe was Imogene Webb. I am looking for a Carl Webb, whose birth, and death date are not known to me. In the Social Security Death Index there are three listed who may or may not be he. The one I'm looking for married, 1936-1941, probably in Cleveland, Ohio, Imogene N. Kirk, born 22 October 1917 in Illinois, died 11 January 1998 in North Ridgeville; Ohio (last known residence); daughter of Everett "Evert" H. Kirk, and Cora Mae/May Gordon. Carl and Imogene lived, in the 1950s, at 3628 West 129th St, in Cleveland, Ohio. In the 1980s they were living at 4546 Selhurst, N. Olmstead, Ohio, which is just outside of Cleveland, Ohio. They had an adopted son, Gary Webb. We visited my Aunt Cora in the late 1930's or early 1940s in Cleveland; at that time Carl and Imogene Kirk were dating. They married shortly thereafter. They adopted a male child before June of 1945, when I had graduated from High School, and my brother and I visited with them in Cleveland. Imogene's mother was Cora Mae Gordon Kirk, nee Gordon, the half-sister of my mother, Hazel Myrtle Jordan Hill, nee Jordan. I sent an e-mail to Luther Winters of the above Family Tree, and received the following e-mail:

"I am no help for you. The data on Carl and family was contributed by someone on the net."

The source is very important; this may be a different Imogene. I am hoping that the individual who contributed to the above Family Tree, or someone, will be able to fill in the blanks. Catherine Hill

Basal ganglia disease in Amish

Robert Racette and his colleagues have posted a large kindred of an Amish family with a basal ganglia disease - parkinson syndrome/disease in this issue of the journal Neurology. I am not one of his colleagues, but could get reprints if someone is interested in this.

The Anabaptist genealogy records may become increasingly important as we look for various genes that cause certain afflictions within our families. Likewise, as we look at our families, we find that there are some who have extraordinarily long lives - and it is not uncommon to have persons over 90. Thus, there are beneficial genes which not only seem to protect us from the ravages of disease, but also of dementia and other debilitating disorders.

Would that we know more about these issues.

John Steiner

My grandmother (Sadie J - b:2-12-1914 d:1965) and her brother (David D - b:2-2-1916 d:1984) were adopted by an amish family when they were very young and I have no idea who their birth parents were.
Looking for relatives of John Middleton, ca. 1815-1851 in Ohio & Indiana

In the census of York township, Noble County, Indiana recorded on 22 Aug 1850 there was a family headed by John Middleton, 35, stone mason, born in Ohio. Included were Lydia (Phillips), 27, NJ, - Eliza Jane, 10, Ind, - Mary C, 4, Ind and Ellinor, 1, Ind.

John Middleton also shows up in the Noble County census of 1840, p 846, which shows him between the ages of 20-30 with one female aged 20-30 and one female aged 0-5 years.

The Noble County History shows that John was elected constable of York Twp in 1839. I have been unable to find a death record or cemetery record for John, but Lydia remarried in 1852, at which point I presume him dead. Does anyone have a connection to this line?
He was united in marriage in 1876 to Sophia Seifert. To this union were born 5 children, 1 son and 4 daughters. His wife died in 1886 while yet in Switzerland. The following year Bro.Goldsmith and his family of 5 children came to America and located in Archbold, Ohio, but later moved on a farm and lived there the rest of his life. In 1891 he was married to Alberta Seifert. To this union were born 11 children, 9 sons and 2 daughters. He leaves to mourn his departure his sorrowing wife, 14 children, 47 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, together with a large circle of relatives and friends. His first wife, 2 sons, and 2 great-grandchildren preceded him in death. He united with the Mennonite Church while yet in Switzerland and when he came to Archbold, Ohio, he became a member of the Mennonite church there and remained a member until death. Funeral services were held at the Central A. M. church Jan. 20 in charge of S D. Grieser, assisted by Henry Rychener. Text, Heb. 13:14. Burial in Eckley Cemetery.

* Notes on Peter Goldsmith He came to the United States with his family in 1886. Peter's I believe he was also born in Alschwil Canton but his obiturary reads Neuwiler, Germany. I have found that most of these families were sponsered by their familes within the Mennoite Church. I believe that Jacob Ropp or one of his family members helped them come to the USA

Struggling to learn more about Eymans who appear in the omii database, and whose records sometimes note "research of David Habeggger". There is much confusion about this family. Jacob Eiman <1725> arrived 1749 and may have been in Upper Paxtang. Ulrich Eyman appears in Conestoga <1764> and soon died. The family was close to some Herrs; Abraham 'Hershey" Herr's will provided for Eyman lands to his brother-in law (Herr had married Christiana "Eyerman") and the care of Leyman children, as well as donations to the ministry of Martin Boehm. How these link to Eymans of Hardy County of VA in 1787 isn't at all clear. Any help would be much appreciated.

I am collecting information on all known Amish Zimmerman immigrants to America in the 19th century. I currently have information on the European origin of ten separate Amish Zimmerman families. I would like to correspond and share information with others researching Zimmerman families.

Introduction of a listserv

Yesterday, at the April meeting of the OMII in Berne, Indiana, we talked about beginning a listserv for the organization.

This will originate out of the University of Cincinnati, will be able to carry attachments, and will be virus filtered and spam free.

Any dues-paying member of OMII whose e-mail we have will be included on the list serv.

This discussion board will continue.

The listserv, however, will be distrirbuted to all members automatically through their e-mail, and will enable us to discuss common problems we all face as genealogists - souces, sites, techniques, Further, it will enable us to learn the individual strengths of our members, who while researching other families, might happen across yours, given the common origin of the families from Berne, Switzerland, and those who fled to the Alsace, Montbeliard, Southern Germany, the Palatinate, etc.

Clearly, there are more Swiss with Anabaptist roots, than simply in the four states we have initially concentrated upon - Ohio Michigan Indiana and Illinois. We have many families in Virginia who came down from the National Road, and throughout Pennsylvania with migration patterns coming in waves in the 1600s, the middle 1700s, 1800s, and beyond.

There are many who came through the Erie Canal from the Hudson River, across NY State to Lake Erie and down to Cleveland, and there were those to followed the progression of the railroad.

The organization's primary goal has been to accumulate and post for general study the ancestors and descendents of the original Bernese Anabaptists and their permutations and combinations - on the OMII site.

The listserv will be activated within the next two weeks. If added information is needed, please contact me privately at jcsneuro@fuse.net.

Thank you
Have missed my OMII

I have missed my OMII site and see that there may be a way to get it back. I am cking to see if the membership would include this.
I am descended to John "Indian" Miller via several relatives.
Miller/Hershberger/Gerber/Stutzman are the names I am searching at present. I have done extensive on my grandfather's, Emanuel A. Hershberger, line. I have been working around him as well as my Ella Miller to gather death, birth and eventually marriage and baptismal records. Just wanted to give a quick intro and would be more than happy to share my cd collection with others who want to share their particular branches. At present I am eagerly working on my Emanuel A. Hershberger/Cinderella Stutzman line. Dad knows little of this line of his family and I would like to get stories and info for him as well as myself. My memories of any families are Walnut Creek Holmes Co OH
Thanks again
~pat (entwistle/gethen/hershberger) griffiths/jones~

Recently, I have come to receive a group of pictures about three of the children of Peter D Steiner 1846-1917, grandson of Bishop Daniel Steiner, 1745/7-1811, the scion of the Steiner Family Tree done by Sem Geiger in 1906.

The pictures depict primarily two brothers' lives in Tuleta, Texas at the turn of the Century, as well as pictures of their forays into Idaho and Utah as Mennonite missionaries.

Tuleta was founded by a group of Mennonites from Illinois in 1905.

If this is of interest, please let me know.

John Steiner

OMII web status

Sometimes the www.omii.org is off line - as is now. To reduce your annoyance, you can find out whether your lack of ability to connect to the site is related to your own service provider or the site itself.

Go to your command line, or to the MSDos prompt, ie C:\ and type: ping www.omii.org

This will give you several possible responses
1 - site not found
2 - site timed out
3 - the results of four pulses sent to the site, with a return pulse - time signal - 30-50 msec usually.

As I understand there's little we can do about this, but knowing how to check any site you regularly visit lets you know whether it is your browser, the system identifier or the site itself.
