Donna,
Boy am I related from all directions! William Gillespie Young was the only son of Edward Loxley Young and Elizabeth probably (Mithe) who came from Glasgow Scotland on the Bark Hyperion into Ellis Island. They were married aboard ship in 1849. There is a lovely story of their sudden departure from Scotland if you haven't read that I would be happy to send it to you. Very romantic!!! but hard on their parents I'm sure. I also have the copy of the ships log. They went directly to Rising Sun, Indiana. Unfortunately Elizabeth died in 1852 so Edward had to seek help from Doctor Gillespie and his family who lived next door. They helped raise young William. The Gillespie family is also from Glasgow and I suspect that they are the reason Edward settled there. I also suspect that they will turn out to be related in some way. Still working on that.
My direct line is through the second wife of Edward Loxley Young. She is Elizabeth Mary Sparks better known as Mrs. Dolph. That one took me about 10 years to figure out. She was married first to Nicholas De Wolf which name Americanized to De wolph then to Dolph. Nicholas died as a result of cleaning a steam boat on the Ohio River with caustic materials. So this was a second marriage for both.
The children of Edward Loxley Young and Mary Elizabeth Sparks were Nancy (my line) James and Jennie. Nancy married John Stopher and had a child named Ida Bell Stopher who married Nathan Enoch Marble in Rising Sun. My mother is a Marble from Rising Sun.
Now on the other line. Martha Jane Bailey is the daughter of John Bailey born 1 Sep 1810 in KY died 25 Oct 1888 in Rabitt Hash, Boone, KY and Harriet Burnett born 1827 died 1890 in Lick Creek , KY. They had 13 children Martha Jane was #8 and James William was # 11. James William Bailey is my direct line. My Grandmother Ava Marie Bailey was his child...she married John Wesley Marble in Rising Sun which resulted in my mother Jean Marble. So, I have both sides covered on this line. I hope this is not to hard to understand.
Now back to William Gillespie Young and Martha Jane Bailey.
I have the following information....if anyone sees any corrections that need to be made please let us know. Most of this information was taken from records kept by Harriette Young below.
Mary E born 3 Dec 1873 married Burt De Hart (This could be your Lizzie for Mary Elizabeth)
Edward born 8 Aug 1880 married Cordellia M Gurley
Harriette Young born 1882 Married Frank Gurley
Eugene Young born 10 Aug 1883 married Katie Gurley
Ada Young born 12 Apr 1887 married Jesse Carpenter
Katherine Young married John Hodges
Calvin Young Married Clara Grace Stopher (yes this picks up my Stopher line again!)
Carrie Young born 1 Jan 1895 married Henry Ulhmansiek
William Young died young
Edward Loxley Young lived with this family in his old age so his grandchildren got to know him well.
Each of us has 4 grandparents 8 great grandparents and 16 great great grandparents. All 16 of my great great grandparents lived in Southern Indiana in Ohio and Switzerland Counties. So, I have lots of research from that region.
Keep in touch and good luck with your search
