Ohio River Families - Massena, Helms, Hartman, Good, Boles

I am looking to trade information with any descendants of the Helms, Good, Massena, or Hartman families of Ohio, West Virginia, or Pennsylvania.

The Massena family's daughter Ella married Samuel Helms. I have traced Ella's mother, Barbara Cramer, but cannot find ancestors of her father Samuel Massena. He was born in PA and fought for WV in the Civil War. I cannot find his date or location of death. Samuel Helms' grandfather, Benonan Helms, is also a dead end. Samuel Helms' mother is Elizabeth Boles. I am attempting to find her parents and siblings.

Ella and Samuel Helms' daughter Birdie/Bertha Helms married Louis Good. I cannot find any ancestors of Louis Good. He went by the nicknames "Gramps" and "Rolling Red." It is said that he was a hobo on the train system. He died in California.

Louis and Birdie Good's daughter Dollie married Wilbur Hartman. Wilbur is the son of Reuben Hartman and Maggie E. I have no information regarding Maggie and would like to find her maiden name. Reuben is the son of Joseph Hartman and Luanna Smith. I would like to trace the Hartman and Smith families further.

Please respond with any information, particularly regarding the Massena family. Other spellings include Mazena, Mozzena, Maseana, Mezziner, etc. It is rumored that the Massena family descended from the French General Andre Massena, however I cannot find a connection.

Thomas Miller Family of Portsmouth, Scioto County, OHIO

I'm searching for information on the Thomas Miller family of Portsmouth, OH. He was born approximately, 1850; struck by a streetcar in Portsmouth, OH and died approx 1900. I know he is buried in Greenlawn Cemetery but do not know the location of his grave.
Who was his wife? Is she also buried in Greenlawn (what location?)? And what are her dates of birth, death and marriage?
The Millers had at least two daughters: Sarah (Sadie) who married John A Schroer Sr (my grandfather) about 1895 and Clara (never married). Sadie died in childbirth with her second son approximately 1900. May have been living in Frankfort, KY at the time. I do not know if she is buried in Greenlawn in Portsmouth, or possibly in Cincinnati, OH with the Schroer family. In addition to the information on Sarah's mother, I would like to know if there were other brothers and sisters, and who they were. Thomas was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Portsmouth. Thank you for any information! Chris Nunner cnunner@fuse.net

Jackson & Lawrence Counties

I am seeking information on William Wallace CLARK, b. about 1860, who married Mary Isabelle MARSHALL, b. about 1863. Sadly, I have no positive information on their parents, when they were born or married, nor where they came from other than family history states that Mary was born four miles from Waterloo OH.

The only knowledge that I have is that they had a son, Harry W CLARK, who was born in Wellston, Jackson County. The family then moved to Columbus and by 1891 were living in North Tonawanda, NY.

Mary died in Niagara Falls, NY in the early 1900s and William died June 11, 1914 and is buried in Hamilton, Ontario.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated as I am at a real stand still with these names.

Thanks, Dave
My great-great grandmother, Minerva Fannin

I'm looking for information about Rebecca Belle Alexander's mother, Minerva Fannin or Farney. In the Carter County marriage listings, her name was listed as Minerva Fannin and her husband was Robert Alexander, son of Asa Alexander.
One of her daughters, Rebecca Belle, married Henry Francis Hughey (although I've seen his name mistakenly listed as John Henry Hughey), son of Dr. Christopher Martin Hughey and Martha Jane Stinson. I do have a marriage date and a year of birth. She was born between 1820-1820 and she was married about 1850. If there are questions, I will supply the information I have. She had other children than Rebecca Belle, among them was Malinda Alexander who married William Alexander (her double first cousin) and William F. Alexander. Any help would be appreciated.

He was killed in 1857 on the Ohio River.

He married Mary Johnson (born in Lowell 1823, parents were Isaac & Elizabeth Johnson) from New York. It was noted that they had 9 children. I have not been able to find them on a Census List.)

Mary Johnson Barnhart then married Robert McCormick 18 Oct 1860 in Washington Co. OH. They had 3 children: Lucrotia (m.
I am doing research on the Morgan family of my mother-in-law. Her parents were Roy Jenning Morgan and Minnie Elizabeth Hughes. They had 4 children.
Lee Roy
Thomas
Betty E.
Dolores
They were raised in Ohio. Around Wellston I think. Or Columbus. I don't have any dates at this time. I am done with her Husbands side of the research (LeMay). Any help would be grateful. Thank you.

ABEL / GAYNOR / maybe GAINOR ???

Thank you for your reply. My 4TH was very nice. This is the family line that I am stuck at a dead end with. Of course the most important for me because I want to join the DAR. All that I know is that my grandmother MARIE (maiden name REINHART), FAYARD was a DAR. Her mother's name was WHILHEMINE LOUISA ABEL, her mother's mother, (grandmother) was LOUISA WHILHEMINE GAYNOR, MARIE'S father was JOHN REINHART. MARIE was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on 09 August 1886, and died in Cincinnati on 29 January 1923. My father always told me his mother was a DAR, and it is on her head stone. I have even come across other surnames for her mother. but can't believe they belong. I am about to go crazy with this one. I have sent just recently for a copy of her application to the DAR, in hopes it will give me her Patroit's name. If that does not, I guess I'll have to give up, all the older ones are gone now, and there is no one left to ask anything. I wish I would of listened to family discussions when I was young, but back then it did not seem important. Now, I could kick myself a 1000 times over for not. Cousins of mine are in the same situation, only have bits and pieces of what they remembered hearing. It is so important for me to find this, not only so I can join, but I could leave no greater gift to my grandsons than their Patroit. Again, Thank You.
Shelia Fayard- Wong

In the mid to late 1800's what is now Brighton Corner, was referred to as Frenchman's Corner. My G. G. Grandparents CHRISTIAN and ELIZABETH GABENNESCH had a tailor shop and a bakery there I believe at Harrison Ave. My Grandmother KATE, their daughter was known as the Belle of Brighton. If any one knows of any history of this or any photo's exist I would love to know and see. I know of no photo's but thought there might be some in Cincinnati History somewhere. Thank you for any help in advance.
SHELIA FAYARD-WONG

Samuel Duckwall / Hezekiah Minor

I am writing to find more information on my gg grandfather, Hezekiah Minor it says that he was born about 1834 in Brown County, Ohio. On the 1850 Census of Hamer Township, Highland County, Ohio, he is listed as a mulatto boy at the age of 16yrs. Hezekiah's death certificate states that his father is John Minor and that his mother is Eliza Lawrence of Ohio. I have thoroughly searched the records for John Minor and Eliza Lawrence to no avail. After I exhausted all avenues in that direction, I decided to go back to the source, The Duckwalls, what I found suggests that it is more than possible that Samuel Duckwall could very well be the father of the Mulatto Hezekiah Minor. On the 1840 Census of the same county, Samuel Duckwall is listed. Although it doesn't list family names, it does list the ages of people in his household. The list goes as follows: Free White males:
one male, age 40-50 (Samuel Duckwall)
Free White Females:
one female, under 5yrs.
one female, 10-15yrs.
one female, 20-30yrs.
FREE COLORED PERSONS:
one colored male, 10-15yrs.
To me this, at the very least, suggests that my gg grandfather, Hezekiah Minor, by the age he was on the 1850 Census 16yrs, was a free boy at six or seven years old, otherwise, Samuel Duckwall could very well be the father of Hezekiah Minor.
MONASTERE family in USA, particularly OHIO

I am trying to find any information about the family of ARTHUR MONASTERE, who was born in Bradford, Yorkshire, England in 1877 and emigrated to Toledo, Ohio in 1895. I don't know what happened after that, so I am hoping someone reading this may have some information for me. On the ship's manifest he has his occupation as Dyer (at least that's what I read it as).
I have details of his brothers and sisters, parents, and paternal grandparents if anyone else is following the same line. I am descended from his aunt, Rosanne Ellen.
I know that some of the boards mention Monasteres so I am very hopeful of a reply. In return, I am willing to share my research (as far as I have got) and I am willing to offer any help I am able as far as research in England goes.

Many thanks to all.
