Early Ports on the Clinch River

In 1798 one of my ancestors, Martin Turpin, left Virginia and entered the Anderson and Knox County area by way of raft on the Clinch River. It appears that he settled near Campbell's Station in Knox County. Is there a port on the Clinch River at which these early pioneers disembarked to make their journey by land toward that area, or did Martin have to go all the way to Southwest Point and then make his way upstream on the Holston River?
