We have since found the N.C. payroll for Captain William York (for his company), and the V.A. accepted the 1860 approved petition for his pension as proof to obtain a marker... and this has been received. I am now looking for a SAR unit in Paulding or Polk Counties in order to honor this old soldier whose family fought so tirelessly to honor him in life and death. Our York group of cousins has done this, and I have to admit I cried when I saw the marker. A cousin is not using William as a supplement for his SAR membership.
