Thank you! You have helped me understand some of the terminology I wasn't too sure about and a couple of new avenues to check out. I am a little curious about Josef Kruszcz and will check the Ellis Island archives again. My grandfather Jacob's fathers name was Saphat according to a marriage certificate. I believe that translates to Josef. The only thing I know for sure is that Jacob was married in Winnipeg in 1912. It is his marriage certificate that I have obtained all my information from.
I find Ukrainian research very frustrating and I do not know the language so if you could recomend someone trustworthy I would be very grateful!
