Maxwell/Langer/Lange b.1890 Leipzig d.1963 aka Fred Lange

Orphan-- We don't know for sure if his birth name was Lange/ Langer or if that was the name of the people who adopted him. We think it was the adopted name. Maxwell Langer was born 1890 in Leipzig Germany. He died in 1963 in Monmouth County New Jersey.
He told us his name was Maxwell Langer he changed it to Fred Lange when he came to USA because people called him "Fritz" on the boat.
His marriage certificate from NY shows the Following:

Max Fred Lange
Born in: Leipzig, Sachsen
Son of: Joseph Lange and Anna gab Plewnia

Freida Wilhelmine Kuhlmann
Born in: Verden Hanover
Daughter of: Henirick(?) Friedrich Kuhlmann and Meta Margaretha gab Brand

on 14th Feb 1915.

Witnesses: (?)
Frieda Glenewinkel and Ernest Bohn

Were there any orphanages in Leipzig?
Does anyone recognize these names?

Orphanage in Frankfurt, Germany 1946-1950s

Hello,

My mother was born in Frankfurt, Germany in 1946. I do not know anything about her past, except that she was in an orphanage, because she does not talk about her life in Germany. She did tell me that her father left, but at a young age she could have a misconception about the situation. At the time she was born, WWII had just ended and Frankfurt was left in ruins. I have come up with many possibilities, one of which is that her father could have possibly been in the army. I would really love to know if anyone has any information about orphanages in frankfurt, or knows possible ways to find out about or contact them. Any other information would be genuinely appreciated. Finding out this information means learning about my grandparents and/or relatives who may possibly be living. THANK YOU.

Also, my mother's surname is Knobe.

Hello,
I received the following message, (having Gehrmann ancestors myself) quoted below. Since our families emigrated from Germany in the mid 1800's, we have not become knowledgable about post-WWII German genealogy. Are there organizations that do help with information for those expelled?
Can someone help out with Della's question? or whom should she be talking to?

"Hello,
I am posting for my husband Eduard Gehrmann he was a fleeing war child that grew up in an orphanage in Germany. Today we just found out his true identity which is Eduard Gehrmann. He was taken to Berritzgard orphanage in Denmark in 1946 he was in the French war zone. His aunt or grandmother had left him there and in 1947 he was shipped to W. Germany were he was placed with the Ilg family (foster family) for about 3.5 years and then sent to the Reichwaisenhaus (orphanage) in Lahr Germany (Black Forrest) he was there a couple of years then sent to two other orphanages were he grew up. He was told that nobody ever came for him after the war. Is there any way you could help us look for the name of his mother and father? Your help is much greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!! Sincerely, Della Gehrmann"
__________________________________________________
My German mother had two children out of wedlock in Heidelberg (my brother in 1949 and myself in 1950). As she was unwed and had no family to help her, she put my brother and myself in a children's home while she worked. She would visit us whenever she could. After two years, she was able to take us out of the children's home and we moved to the US. I learned of this on her deathbed but have no further information. Does anyone have any information on children's homes in Germany after the war?

German Russian Orphanages 1890s

I'm wondering if anybody has any suggestions. My great grandfather was born in 1893 in the German Russian village of Huck. He always told my grandmother that he was adopted as a baby.

From what I have read about Huck and other villages I'm guessing it was probably not an adoption as I know it in present time. Not sure what conditions around orphanages were at the time.

Was it common for the children to be taken in by family or friends as opposed to an orphanage? If he was taken in as a baby does that mean his real last name is probably not what I have on documents? The father on documents has the same last name, but now I'm wondering if that would even be his biological father? Did they keep their original names or take those of adoptive families? I have hit a brickwall and I'm starting to wonder if this may be the reason. I would assume an adopted child would not be on a Pleve chart for the adoptive family... what about the biological family?
Any suggestions are welcome.
