Try this search engine, all states can be searched and the directions on how to search is on this page.
It covers all the archives so you will get quite a few hits on each name but there are all types of documents that it covers, marriage, deaths, cemetery, census, court records, land records and more.
This search engine is just for the genweb archives.(Older material that has been archived to make room on the regular genweb pages for more current information)
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/newsearchengine.html
If might want to try algenweb or Iowagenweb and see what they have listed presently. (all states can be searched this way)
If you want to search in Alabama you can also go to "Tracking Your Roots".
Census Online has many census listed as well as other records.
I would advise checking all these sites as many have different information.
