Hello. I'd like to offer an FYI that the "orphan train movement" began in Boston, MA, ~1860 ?. These officials sent the children to farm families within New England.

When New York City found out about the "scheme," they decided to do it. However, those officials sent the children out to as many states as would accept them - usually west of NYC.

If you check out the archives of this Board and the Orphan Trains List, you will find more information.
