DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT CHASE FARM SCHOOL ORPHANAGE IN EDMONTON UNION IN ENFIELD, MIDDLESEX, LONDON, ENGLAND?
My father in law Frederick Linley was a British Home Child. He was placed in Chase Farm School Orphanage in Edmonton Union, Enfield, Middlesex, London, England.Oct. 1894. He was then put in Barnardo's Home in London in May 1899 for 3 months prior to being shipped to Quebec, Canada to work on a farm. On July 14, 1899 he sailed from Liverpool and arrived in Quebec on the ship "Lake Huron" July 29, 1899.
He worked on a farm near Toronto as a "Barnardo Boy" for 4 years, until he was 16 years old. I have been unable to find much information about "CHASE FARM SCHOOL ORPHANAGE" in Edmonton Union, Enfield, in Middlesex, London, England. Does anyone know anything about this orphanage?
We shockingly found all of this out about my father in law 's childhood, only a few years ago as he never talked about all of this. I stumbled across the website "Young Immigrants to Canada" and found his name on the Lake Huron ship's list!
We didn't even know the name of his parents or siblings until recently. Sadly, he died in 1976 without ever talking about his childhood experiences. He only told us he was raised by an "aunt and uncle" in Port Credit, Ontario!
