I lived there in Inglewood from 1955 to 1958. I am looking for anyone from this time. In the little girls wing I had a fried named Sandy and also Maxine Reagan. Also was very close to a Helena Radazinski in the big girls wing. After graduation I went to Monroe Jr. High. Anyone remember these people or this time. There was also a young male activities director who used to take us to the beach and organize games of pom pom pull away on a large lawn. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

Does anyone have any information about the Childrens Home Society in Oakland CA. This is where the baby we are helping was adopted from June 14 1944. Has anyone had any luck getting birth records from Alameda Co CA? We have non identifying info from the childrens home. Both adopted parents are deceased and we have their death certificates but how do we go about getting actual birth information. It is needed for health reasons as well as personal information. Thank you, Phyllis pdc_1@charter.net

My mother left my oldest brother on the steps of an orphanage in California when he was eight years old. This took place before I was born. It must have been in the late 1940's or early 1950's. I am not sure about the accuracy of this information, but I was told his name was either John King or John Lee. Not sure on the name or if the name was changed. This is very little info to go on. I don't know where to start. This has been on my heart for many years now. If any one has any clue where to start in my search, please contact me.

My mother, her sister and brother were placed in an orphanage around 1930 after their mother died. I am trying to locate any of their records. All three were adopted about 2 years later by Walter and Marjorie Horne. In letters we found after my mom died, she wrote that it was a Quaker orphanage in Oakland, California.

Names:

Wilbertha Coleman changed to Bonnie Patricia Horne
Maria Coleman changes to Jeanne Horne
Phillip Coleman changed to Donald Horne

If anyone could direct me to possible information source, I would appreciate it very much!

Our father dropped us off at a place known as a detention center for children, near where the old Kezar stadium was built I think. Our mothers name was Gemma Delores [Drury]Rundle, our fathers name was either Wesley Vance Rundle or Vance Wesley Rundle. Our mother died in 1999 and our father died in 1983 I believe. We were placed in separate foster care homes and very far apart and we lost all contact. We have many relatives, however none remained in touch with us. We had an uncle Oliver Drury and James Drury and aunts marrion, Lillian,Alice and several others that I can no longer remember their names. Our grandmothers name was Bertha
[Miller] Drury. She had eight children I was told. They lived in SF. for years[through the 30s past 1990s....
If anyone can help me , it would be greatly appreciated.
Very sincerely,
Diane carol Rundle[Bromm]
[916] 481 3678
Togd1@aol.com

I'm trying to find out where I can get a hold of records relating to the Ladies' Relief Society & Children's Home of Oakland, Alameda, California. My husband's grandmother and her sister were wards of this institution in 1910. It would help me to be able to get the records regarding their stay in this orphanage.

If anyone knows how I can get a hold of these records I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Tammy STARK Blandino

I am looking for information regarding the Ladies' Relief Society and Children's Home of Oakland, Alameda Co, California, circa 1910. My husband's grandmother, Hazel Banks, and her sister Nellie were listed as in this orphanage in the 1910 Census. Hazel was 4 and her sister was 3.

It is unfortunate that Hazel died back in 1993 so I am no longer able to ask her about it. I just found out about this last night and am searching for any information concerning the society or the Banks relationship to it.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I am having trouble finding my great grandfather's real name etc. Does anyone have any idea of whether a person put up for adoption or given to a guardian about 1878 or 1879 would have had there names changed if they were 2 or 3 years old.
He was born in Canada and raised in California. Either Placed in a home in California or person who had him moved from Canada to California. His name was Roy Mcknight after adoption.
Thanks
Marleen
Good Templar's Home Orphanage, Vallejo, Solano County, California 1869-1919

Good Templars’ Home Orphanage of Vallejo, Solano Co., California 1869-1919
http://www.rootsweb.com/~cascgsi/ (Use Database Button)
In our efforts to help preserve the records of the 4500 orphans or half-orphans who went through the Good Templars’ Home, the 1880, 1900, and 1910 Federal Census records were searched and indexed. A burial list from the Good Templars’ Home Cemetery Plot in the Union Cemetery in Vallejo was located and indexed. Several copies of the booklet Proceedings of the Annual Sessions of the Grand Lodge of the Independent Order of the Good Templars’ dated 1872, 1882, 1883, 1884, which lists the orphans and their age and date of admission were also added to the index. The Proceedings of the Annual Sessions are in the possession of the Vallejo Maritime Museum. The lists which occur in the books tell the age on admission of the orphan, which is not necessarily the date of the publication of the booklet. The original source should be checked as it also states if an orphan’s father or mother are living or deceased. The SCGS Library has copies of the lists from the Proceedings which will assist the researcher in providing more facts. In some instances the index can be confusing, so all efforts should be made to consult the original records. Another source used were articles from the Vallejo Evening Chronicle Newspaper. These listed some orphans admitted, promotions, staff, and a few deaths. Copies of the newspaper articles are also in the SCGS Library. The last source used were the Board of Examiners Records from the California State Archives, #3617-18, #3617-31, #3617-51, #3617-68, #4048, and #4049. Depending on the year, some of these records were rich in content giving facts on where the parents were born, where parents were married, etc. Contact Solano County Genealogy Society for a copy of the original records. See SCGS Research policy.

Kathy Busby
Webmaster
http://www.rootsweb.com/~cascgsi/
