Highland Heights 1950s

I lived next door to Highland Heights and went to school with the children there from K through 6th. My father, Dr. Joseph D'Amico, was the doctor who was available for emergencies, free of charge. I can remember teachers' names and have a 100 year tribute book put out by Highland Heights which has some good background info, photos, and many names of staff. My sister, Catherine, and brother Joey, also attended the school.
Wish I could find my best friend, Geraldine Yankee.

Orphanage in Milford, CT later 1800s to early 1900s?

Hello,
In a thread someone mentioned that Steve Stymiest would be willing ot help look for orphanges in CT. That was awhile ago, would anyone knowif he is still active in this area? and how would I contact him?
My grandfather and some of his siblings were sent to an orphanage in Milford, CT while some were sent to work on farms as indentured servants when their natural mother died and their stepmother did not want 9 children. I cannot find any record of it, but one of the grandsons of one of the children sent to the orphanage told me it was in Milford, CT. I am new to ancestry searches and don't know how to go aobut finding out more. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm trying to find my cousins, taken from my Aunt between 1940-1946 by the State of Connecticut. All I know is that one was a girl, that my Aunt was in a state home in Mansfield Depot (for unwed mothers, I think) and that her name was Rose, or RoseAlma Taylor. The existence of the 2nd child and the sex is uncertain, but I'd like to find out what happened to them, where they would have been taken, so at least my mother could know..she's the only one left in the Taylor family. I don't know where to start with this, so any leads would be appreciated..Linda H. avonlindah@hotmail.com

Home of the Homeless (Orphanage)

While surfing Ancestry.com, I found a member of my husband's family listed in an AWT file with the title "Home of the Homeless (Orphanage)". I believe his mother may have died when he was 10-11, but I was caught off guard by the AWT title. Does anyone know where I can find a list of early 1800 orphanages for Connecticut? Truman Judson, if it is true, may have resided there after his mother's death in 1817/1818. Thanks in advance, Tammy

St. Francis Orphanage, New Haven, CT. Highland Heights

Along with these houses and estates, an important occupant of the district in the 1870s was the St. Francis Roman Catholic Orphanage (c. 1870, later demolished), a rather grandiose French Empire Revival building occupying grounds stretching from Prospect Street to Whitney Avenue just north of Highland Street. Edgehill Road, which was not cut through the estate until 1900, still retains the gateposts and stone wall of the orphanage. This information was entitled Prospect Hill Historic District. and there was an email nhtp@connix.com . If you write to this email if it is still good you could probably find out what they did with the old records from highland heights.
