Yes, I lived at the Denver Orphans Home under the same circumstaces beginning in 1953. My parents were divorced, I was no orphan, but my mother worked during the week and picked me up on weekends.
I was treated very well there. I remember the house mother was Mrs. Evans. She had her own room, off the general room, were all the girls slept.
We had beds all lined up in two lines. We had our own dressing tables
I was very lonely. I didn't feel I belonged there. My dad had visitation rights every other weekend, but on my mother's weekend, she didn't always come and get me. So I stayed there.
I think the name of my school was Garfield.
I left in 1954 when my mother married and we moved to
California. I was just on Google to see if this building was still there.
PS I do remember one other thing. The TV just came out, an we all watched Queen Elizabeth being crowned. That was 1953.
