Iowa Orphanages

I am trying to find out what happened to the six children of Abraham Carlisle and his wife, Maria Jane White Carlisle when she died in 1869. The children were George, Charles, Ilan Fay "Richard", Emma Jane, William Pearl, and John Reiley Carlisle. Family lore indicates that all or part of the children were placed in an orphanage after 1870. The family lived in the Cedar/Benton/Scott County areas. Richard was my ggrandfather so I know something of his adult life and I have tracked some of the other children in later years but am curious about their early childhood after the loss of their mother.
